My lad lives round the back of #spellow library. It's a poor area, occasionally troubled but here in the Terraced streets; they are filled with kids running up and down, playing, scooting, laughing... And that's rare. It shows that despite what people may think, the kids are free and safe.
My dear friend @MarnieRiches author of Manchester noir crimes & dark deeds has done something lovely in the wake of the spellow library riot & fire. 100s of authors donating books w. cards of support. A beautiful gesture to my childhood library. #spellow #liverpool

I was name checked re #spellow lane library on bbc radio Merseyside today by my fave mucker: #MarnieRiches author of Manchester noir crime thrillers. Unexpected! Much love. #bbc #radiomerseyside
#spellow #walton #kirkdale #liverpool. Watching it kick off from my son's house. Horrible evening. Kirkdale is poor and it doesn't need this... It needs investment and opportunity. Greatful to authors and my mate Marnie Riches for organising the book campaign. #books #readingnotriots

Adam Wharton, 28, was arrested alongside his brother, Ellis Wharton, 22 and appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court charged with burglary on Saturday night. The eldest brother, from Selwyn Street, L4, was arrested after being seen in a balaclava going into the Spellow Hub Library in the early hours of Sunday morning as people looted and set the building on fire. The 28-year-old was remanded in custody and told he would be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on August 29th. As he left the dock, he shouted โshitty-arse judgeโ. His brother, Ellis, appeared sporting a black eye and also admitted burglary but denied assaulting a police officer. The court heard he was seen by police with a computer screen under his arm inside the Spellow Hub Library and was arrested by officers who struggled with him before detaining him.
