A tuft of long, thin, scaly plant stems growing from rocky soul. The live scale-leaves are a light green, with rusty brown near the base of the living leaves, and older growth is desiccated and grey.
Selaginella wallacei (Wallace's spikemoss) is a lycophyte, one of the oldest groups of land plants, with identifiable members represented in the fossil record as early as 425 million years ago.
