Let's review the mission logs. TUD opens with the USS Excelsior (Captain Hikaru Sulu) as its course takes it within spitting distance of the Klingon Neutral Zone. The ship is pimp slapped by a titanic (but apparently undetectble until seconds before impact) shockwave.
