It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that I didn’t want to end. While I listen to a ton of audio books, I lost my attention span for physical books when Covid hit. I feel like this one could have finally broken my funk.

Since I'm a substitute teacher and so was the main character, let me just say that I was disappointed that the book didn't work in more detail about being a substitute teacher. Also after seeing the cover, I was disappointed that the main character was not a cat. That said, there was little else to be disappointed about. There's probably not another book out with a plot even close to this one, the cats and other creatures were awesome, everything was pretty hilarious. It did get a little dark and violent, but I'm okay with that too. I did the audiobook, and I love Wil Wheaton and his voice is great, but I didn't like that he gave many of the characters the same voice, it confused things sometimes for me. Also during some of the accented voices you could hear his normal voice slipping through occasionally. Still fun to listen to.

@scalzi.com #StarterVillain I kind of felt sad at the end of Charlie's story. I guess I wanted him to smash the oligarchy and save us all. But the bonus story was delightful and really cheered me up so thank you for including it! (I almost missed it as Kindle tried to force me back to the store!)

Charlie's life is going nowhere fast. So...elevated me purchased Scalzi's "The Dispacher" a while back and I settled on it after having just finished #StarterVillain . Really really good. The audiobook is a delight. Treat yo'self And I just discovered it's a series. Best day ever
