This image is from the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, “Encounter at Farpoint.” It shows the USS Enterprise-D flying past one of the massive spaceborne creatures often described as “space jellyfish.” These luminous, ethereal beings were revealed to be living organisms rather than structures, central to the mystery at Farpoint Station. Their glowing, jellyfish-like forms drifting through the void of space.
A child, their face playfully covered by a unicorn mask filter, holds up a drawing inspired by the first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The artwork shows two large “space jellyfish” creatures, one blue and one pink, floating against a darkly shaded background. Almost every weekend for a few years the kids & I have been watching #StartTrek #TNG. Since the youngest missed some of the first episodes, we went back & watched “Encounter at Farpoint” in preparation for “All Good Things...” They made this artwork & asked me to share. They also chose the filter.

I keep thinking about this week’s #StartTrek #StangeNewWorlds, and I can’t get over the fact that it is now clear Captain Pike is a lapsed Catholic. On one hand, I feel like I better understand his character, but on the other, I feel like I understand future Earth culture less.
The whole thing reminds me of the worst corporate awayday team building workshops. Give me strength, seriously they need to stop making #StarTtrek spin-offs.
