The book that hasn't left my desk for the entirety of my PhD and beyond! #StatisticalRethinking by @rmcelreath.bsky.social is a must for any scientist, especially for a FIELD ecologist, yes, a #field #ecologist if you want to try to many any sense imout of your observations!
New lecture recordings for the new year!

Finally making my way through Ch. 5 of #StatisticalRethinking after a long, long break.
This is definitely too ambitious of a project for me, but I'd like to learn to use RMarkdown to compile some research/scripting notes which marries the content from @/rlmcelreath's #StatisticalRethinking with Wikle, Zammit-Mangion and Cressie's #SpatioTemporalStatisticsWithR.
More fun (deeper into Ch4 of #StatisticalRethinking)...
I've been dragging so much ass on getting through Ch 4 of #StatisticalRethinking. I could say that my fever held me up a couple days, but I don't think that's being 89% honest.
I suspect when I got back to Kruschke and Hobbs & Hooten (after finishing #StatisticalRethinking, of course), they'll make a lot more sense in the "why did I find this so difficult before?" kind of way.
On the other hand, maybe me-from-2-years-ago lacked the mathematical maturity to appreciate how simple McElreath has made learning how to *apply* these statistical procedures. #StatisticalRethinking
I'm really enjoying Chapter 4 of #StatisticalRethinking. I really could have used the book in my life like 2 years ago when I was trying to make sense of Kruschke's text on #BayesianDataAnalysis or Hobbs & Hooten's book on #BayesianModels.
I'm doing some SERIOUS annotating of McElreath's code as I go through #StatisticalRethinking. Not that he doesn't provide excellent commentary (he does). These are just to remind me what he/I am doing.
This line spoke to me: "Remember, we're not launching rockets or calibrating atom smashers, so fetishizing precision to the 5th decimal place will not improve your science."

"No branch of applied mathematics has unfettered access to reality, because math is not discovered, like the proton. Instead, it is invented, like the shovel."

on monday in my MCMC #StatisticalRethinking class: will queen Margrethe quell the Faroese riots? how will she deal with the kbh uprising?
