I shot this #sunset at the coast above #StinsonBeach with a 60-year-old Nikon 55mm f/1.2 lens on a digital microFourThirds camera. This lens offers unique rendering.
Stinson Beach Sunset Imagine standing on a wide, open beach as the day ends. The horizon stretches endlessly, with the Pacific Ocean lying calm and reflective before you. Above, the sky glows with layers of color—deep orange near the sun, fading into pinks and purples that blend softly into the blue. The light feels warm and gentle, wrapping the scene in a peaceful glow. Because Stinson Beach is often covered in fog, this clear view is rare. The air is crisp, and the absence of mist lets the colors shine vividly. The panorama makes the sunset feel larger than life, as if the sky and sea are joining together in one sweeping embrace. The mood is serene yet powerful—quiet waves roll in, the shoreline is still, and the vastness of the scene invites reflection. It’s a moment of calm beauty, where nature offers a fleeting gift: a sunset so clear and radiant it feels like the world has paused just to let you take it in.
Stinson Beach Sunset
The Stinson Beach Sunset captures a rare fog-free evening on the Northern California’s coast. Golden light spills across the horizon, reflecting on calm waters as vibrant hues of orange, pink, and violet paint the sky.

On a whim, the folks and I travelled west to visit my brothers in California. The crowds were massive and freeways clogged but it was an enjoyable trip.
Driving in the #mountains above #StinsonBeach. This is the #Bolinas Ridge Road. It's frequently wet here among the #trees as this is a temperate #rainforest.
The same #sandpiper as in the previous shot. No telephoto on my phone cam. This is at #StinsonBeach. In the background you can see the #Bolinas area.
Stinson Beach Dawn
Stinson Beach, California, looking out towards San Francisco. This is an old-school film photograph (Kodak E100VS, I believe) taken with a 300mm f/2.8 lens.

I ended up finding 2 more whole sand dollars. How much is a sand dollar worth, you ask??
At least one smile, usually more. Find a sand dollar share a sand dollar.
No sand dollars were harmed, these are all dead.

#StinsonBeach in foggy sunlight. The offshore #MarineLayer is a near ever-present cloud bank that lingers miles out to sea. Often, the marine layer will make landfall. This is the Bay Area's natural air conditioning, helping with out mild climate.

Stinson Beach and Bolinas as seen while driving on the #PanoramicHighway toward Highway 1 and the town of #StinsonBeach. One scene of John Carpenter's 1980 pirate zombie ghost movie #TheFog (old man telling kids a horror story on the beach) was filmed at Stinson Beach.

The picture on the left was shot on #Highway1 going southeast toward #StinsonBeach. You are looking at the #BolinasLagoon. The picture on the right was shot above Stinson Beach looking southeast toward #SanFrancisco which can be seen roughly 20 km away in the distance.

I saw this #HeavyLogisticsVegicleWheeled or #HLVM on #Highway1 a little north of #StinsonBeach. This once #Canadian #military truck has been converted into a #camper or #expedition vehicle. This particular vehicle has been also spotted on Vancouver Island by someone else.
More #roadside #Americana. This is in the sleepy coastal town of #bolinas, just north of #StinsonBeach. Some Hollywood stars own houses away from it all up here and the town folks like being secluded and prefer visitors in moderation.

I took this picture on the #PanoramicHighway above #StinsonBeach, California. The #MarineLayer was coming in from the Pacific Ocean and I was mostly above the #clouds. This location is about 500 meters above sea level.
A #coyote was in the middle of the road or more specifically #Highway1 a few miles north of #StinsonBeach, CA. Coyotes are very common there and I often see packs near the beach during the day. They are not very shy and used to people.
I took this picture on #Highway1 driving along the #Bolinas lagoon just north of #StinsonBeach a few years ago. The sun is setting above a #wildfire on the #PointReyesPeninsula.

This view is from Mount Tamalpais in Marin County looking towards Stinson Beach homes, Bolinas and the Bolinas Lagoon. The sun was overwhelmingly bright on the Pacific Ocean. The foreground is lush and green. You can barely see a person walking the hillside trail.

Celebrated Sanjiv's birthday yesterday by driving to #StinsonBeach; visiting puppy; then an amazing dinner at #Commis. Happy Birthday!
