AU where Tay had a far less traumatic childhood, with their species coexisting civilly with other races in an intergalactic society, though they're still know for their voraciousness.

Tay attending university, roaming the halls in one of those sports jackets, always unbuttoned to display their plated chest... and everyone knows why. They're the local bully, and will happily toss you into the fleshy abyss their open jacket grants easy passage to for a cramped detention. Another nerd stuffed into the ol' locker~

(Psst, the whole "uncaring bully" thing is all an act. They're one of 36 siblings and they're the only one who got into this school, so they gotta represent their family's place on the top of the food chain among other [Insert Tay's species here] families, ya dig? You know, it occurs to me that the perspective of this piece could be a bit confusing. The intention is that they're tilting their head back! Way back. Most of what you're seeing in the head region is the roof of their mouth!

It's honestly fascinating to me how many ways Tay and Darnell have wound up being foils to each other. In no particular order: -Darnell's digestion is mostly chemical (acid-based) whilst Tay's is mostly mechanical (compression/pressure-based) -Tay's digestion is exceedingly quick (~3-6 seconds full process) whilst Darnell's is on the slower side (~10 hours full process)

-Both will leave the outcome of a voring (endo/digestion) up to their prey (under friendlier circumstances, at least), but given the choice themselves, Tay prefers endo whilst Darnell prefers digestion -Tay basically never digests anyone without consent (in a clear state of mind, at least), whilst Darnell will happily gurgle people who are being problematic (or even friends if he knows they wouldn't mind it deep down) without permission

-On that note, Tay gravitates to using other methods to resolve disputes sooner than eating people, whilst Darnell will gladly eat that guy who was being a prick to everyone on the bus as a first resort -Tay is very suited towards mass-digesting folks but has comparatively smaller endo capacity, whilst Darnell can hold more folks at once but can't digest nearly as many people in a short timeframe

-Tay 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 tease their prey sometimes, but typically isn't comfortable doing so with anyone other than close friends; Darnell will tease anyone who looks at him the right way -Complimenting them on any gains received from digesting prey will make Tay turn white as a sheet (become a blushy mess); Darnell will own it like "you know it" -Darnell's gut is translucent, Tay's... 𝘪𝘴𝘯'𝘵 -Tay eats people through their chest, Darnell... 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯'𝘵

Tay can't speak with their torso-maw open outside of a very rudimentary variant of their native language. Having them open up to eat someone in a consensual scenario, but the prey keeps talking to them and they need to close up to answer...

Tay's biology can facilitate endo without any outside assistance! Their digestion is more or less entirely compression-based, see; so long as they don't flex the tendons lining their maw/stomach chamber too hard, their prey's entirely safe! This also means that any depiction of them with a bulging belly is endo in nature until when or if they decide it isn't.

That being said, their saliva has a chemical softening effect on their prey's physical makeup to allow for easier compression. It's nothing really dangerous on its own so long as compression isn't triggered (nor is it painful), but they're gonna have to fabricate a stabilizer shot in their ship's medbay (not a needle or anything) to banish any residual malleability affecting their prey once they’re released.

You know those marks you get when you sleep in the same position for too long from your body pressing up against the surface you're lying against? Tay likes to give their meals gentle, affectionate little squeezes with their tendons, but if they get too carried away their prey might emerge with marks similar to those, which won't really go away on their own. Easily fixed, though!

In one direction, an advancing, uncombatable, lethal threat. In the other, a long fall that could lead to serious injury or death. The latter, however, has Tay at the bottom. "Jump!" They say. "I'll catch you!" With that, the alien leans back, the flaps of their upper torso swinging open to reveal the expansive maw hidden within. Slightly terrifying, but hey, Tay's a friend, right? Surely their intentions are benevolent. You take a deep breath and launch yourself off the edge, air whistling around you as you brace yourself to meet the warm, slick environment of the safety net provided... only for one of the alien's tentacles to snatch you from midair, coiling around your waist. Tay closes up as they gently lower you to the ground, unfurling their appendage from around your body and retracting it. You stare at them in confusion before inquiring why they bothered unveiling their stomach-mouth if they weren't going to use it. "Oh!" They exclaim, as if the reasoning was obvious. "That was just in case I... missed you with my tentacles, if that makes sense? Sort of a fallback plan, you know?" Tay observes you for a moment, their expression turning a bit bashful, doubtful. "Why? Did you... WANT me to eat you?”
