The chamomile is almost ready to show some yellow. The milkweeds are only about 8 inches tall so far. They will eventually reach a height of about 3 feet. The is one bee cup pictured. It's a tiny round light green shape in this image, almost right in the centre. Foreground is just grass and the background features a fence. Among the plants are last year's milkweed stems which are much taller and continue out of frame and they make perfect little hiding places for certain pollinators to overwinter.
Close up photo of one of my three raised garden beds. This one features the seedlings which were planted yesterday: tomatoes, peppers, basil, thyme and marigold in the soil. I also planted some nasturtium seeds between these plants but it will take a while to see them grow. Among the plants here are also some bee cups which hold about a teaspoon of water for thirsty pollinators. They don't hold enough water for mosquitos to breed and because it's such a small amount of water, it is safer for pollinators to drink but it evaporates quickly so one must fill the bee cups every morning (if it hasn't rained). These bee cups have a UV glaze on them that makes them look like flowers to pollinators thereby becoming an inviting place to get a drink. They are made from porcelain and won't leach harmful chemicals into the water for the pollinators nor the soil where one's food might be growing. There are many impersonators who don't take such care with their work so buy only authentic bee cups or look up how to make a pollinator watering station with marbles in a low dish if you want to help thirsty pollinators.
Yesterday, garden season opened at my house! It was THE day because before June 6 there’s still risk of frost here & then I was expecting it to rain all day today & off & on through this coming week.
