Severe Tropical Cyclone Zelia made landfall at 12:30pm near De Grey River mouth northeast of Port Hedland. Port Hedland to avoid the very destructive core of the cyclone.

Category 5, sustained winds near the centre of 205 kph with wind gusts to 285 kph.
Zelia is moving to the south southeast and expected to make landfall this afternoon just to the east of Port Hedland.

Satellite & radar imagery for Severe Tropical Cyclone Zelia. According to the BoM it's now a category 5 ( highest rating) with estimated maximum wind gusts of 285km/hr. The system is expected to cross the coast between De Grey & Karratha during Friday afternoon or evening. #TCZelia #TropicalCyclone

Nasty #TCZelia. Forecast Cat 3 right over Port Hedland. If it gets stuck offshore could quickly go to Cat 4. Probs ok in PH but inland might suffer a bit, specially Indigenous communities.
