Emotional Intelligence in Leadership: The Power of Self-Awareness and Recovery Throughout my career, I’ve met many arts educators who’ve become masters at what I call “domesticating the arts.” The arts evoke power. They hold the power to excite, tame, inspire, and educate. Yet in educational settings, that power is often managed within systems that value structure and compliance. The real artistry lies in learning to move between both worlds: leading with creative spirit while maintaining clarity, consistency, and professional accountability.

Emotional intelligence helps leaders balance creativity with composure. When we master the shift between right- and left-brain thinking, we model clarity, trust, and respect. Awareness is the greatest agent for change. #Leadership #TeachingArtists #EmotionalIntelligence

The Power of Showing Up It sounds simple, but I’ve seen how often consistency is where professionals stumble. In schools, nonprofits, and creative workplaces, it is easy to retreat into busyness, delay follow-through, or miss chances to connect. The leaders who stand out are not the ones who make a splash once and then disappear. They are the ones who show up again and again with care, attention, and steady action.

Blending In and Sparking Joy: A Simple Reference for Organizational Culture. Teaching Artists are like creative superheroes who bring art, music, dance, and storytelling into different schools. Because they move from school to school, they get to see lots of different school cultures. Each school has its own “personality” with its own rules, routines, and ways of doing things. Some schools are super loud and energetic, while others are calm and quiet.
