What have Harris County Democrats done this week? Texas House Representative Ana Hernandez (143) authored HB 1362, expanding eligibility for unemployment benefits to include individuals who leave their jobs due to sexual harassment concerns, provided they report it to their employer, law enforcement, or a relevant agency. Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee and Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones announced they have won their lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and secured $10.5 million for the county’s refugee resettlement program. Staff and volunteers representing the Harris County Democratic Party took part in the “Be Someone” rally organized by 50501, including HCDP Organizing Director Corisha Rogers who addressed the crowd. HCDP sponsored an Easter egg hunt at the Villas at Colt Run Apartments, hosted by Kingdom Builders Cathedral and Pastor Terrance Hall. On April 17th Every Texas Democrat voted “No” on the Texas education Voucher Bill (HB 2), which ultimately passed.
