Pine needles, moss, mushrooms, mist. A narrator that speaks directly to the reader addressing them as “we”. Writing, setting, and well developed characters all make for a creepy and entertaining October read. Solid.

#TheEmpusium was as odd as I suspected. And Paul Weller's folky covers sort of matched the old village-vibe of the book. The pace at which things played out reminded me of the movie Midsommar. I was confused and a bit creeped out, so it's a winner for me!
