I can only write solo, at my own pace. Feedback wise I've used beta readers in the past, after the 2nd draft was complete. Next time a critique partner might be good, but it's crucial they're in the same genre as me.

Don't write each zero draft chapter as if it's about to be published. It slows the process and is utterly pointless. A buddy's drafing process enlightened me with things like (add description here). A terrific idea.

I like espionage stories so politics is part of the deal really. I can't follow if the plot gets too complex though. Since my novel involves espionage, there is a political subplot involved, but it's nothing heavy.
