I am testifying in support of 2 ebike bills today. One would legalize class 1 ebikes for kids/teens, which is overdue and can't happen quickly enough.

What's funny is someone who is strongly opposed to a bill, used my words from the @BikePortland #throttlekids article.

2 ebike teens crashed in Hood River and were med-flighted last Friday.

Helpless w/ no crash report and a public response that I predicted in @BikePortland.

But I can take the #80sWalkRollClub to the crash site to talk about the law and intersection.

Are class 2 #throttlekids ebikes less expensive because of the throttle or is it possible for companies like @RadPowerBikes to make inexpensive pedal-assist, appropriate for all ages?

We have many teens on ebikes, despite it being technically illegal. I hope @RepEmersonLevy is successful in changing law to allow Class 1 ebikes for all ages.

This is freedom for them and their parents.

I wouldn't use "menace" to describe the kids in #HoodRiver. It's more of a lack of basic bike education.

Another reason the #ThrottleKids phenomenon is fascinating is that these teens riding ebikes have no one modeling behavior. They just do it because they need to get somewhere.
