At least, not afraid of the monsters on the outside. Because she knows those monsters intimately. From the inside. Because she’s the only doctor capable of treating their ailments and injuries when their own natural advanced healing isn’t enough.

A- #AudioBookReview: Through Gates of Garnet and Gold by Seanan McGuire My Review: Whenever I think of the Wayward Children series, I imagine of the chase scene from Monsters, Inc. that takes place in the vast, cavernous space where all the doors are stored. I want to see a place just like that in this series - but I KNOW that the doors that these wayward children go through, sometimes back through, and very occasionally stride through one more time - or even more - aren’t stored that way.

#BookReview: Boy with Accidental Dinosaur by Ian McDonald My Review: The opening scene of this book is absolutely, even cinematically, iconic. To the point where the reader can almost see it as the opening of a new Mad Max movie - except for one rather large detail. It’s the scene of a young man pedaling a dusty but serviceable bicycle on a cracked and ruined highway in a blasted post-apocalyptic landscape.

I’ll confess that I picked it up because it was short and fantastical and that was exactly what I was in the mood for. It turned out to be fantastic and beautiful in ways that I was not expecting it all. But was so very happy to read.

#BookReview: Daedalus is Dead by Seamus Sullivan My Review: Something about that title probably rings a bell. In some form or another, the Greek myth about Icarus is well known and subject to oodles of interpretation - all of which somehow come back to overwhelming ambition and pride going very much before a really HUGE fall. This is, actually, sorta/kinda that kind of story, but it’s not Icarus that suffers from either of those conditions.
