The final marchers of the parade. People dressed in the colors of the rainbow, carrying balloon art that looks like a bunch of tentacles waving in the wind. Each coordinated with the marchers outfit. This year's pride was absolutely amazing. Hard to not worry about the future of Pride parades and events under our new regime in the US. Hard to not look at the hopeful faces and think of the end of the Weimar Republic in Germany during Hitlers true rise. However, for this summer it felt like all that was a million miles away. Still does living in Minneapolis, surrounded on the daily by far left messages, painted on every empty wall by the local artists. In the park where the pride festival takes place, leftists political parties dominate the field Communists and socialists gathering signatures, enlisting people in an attempt to change the tide. Feels like a safe haven even as the fascists are knocking at our door. Putting the region on lists of enemies of the President's goals. No, not this summer. This summer felt free. This summer was full of dancing, and friendship. No one spoke about what could be coming. We just made plans for the night, what outfit we would wear, which after party we would attend, who we would go home with. Pride is a protest, but it didn't feel like it. Maybe this is what we all needed. One last celebratory summer before the roll back of rights. One last summer of bliss in being our authentic selves. One last dance, before the fight begins. Before the Pride returns to the streets, to the resistance.
A happy duo, one male presenting person dressed sorta like a gay pimp, another female presenting person, smile across her face, rainbow shirt on. This year the parade was lead by Gov Tim Walz. While I suppose it was nice to have such a prominent figure lead our march, I couldn't help but remember Palestine. I remember when he said that Israel and their proxies are essential to US National Security. Meaning we were not going to hold them accountable, and the bombs and genocide would continue. I remember seeing him in political ads with his gun hunting, appearing like I had only really seen the right do politics. Acting like we haven't been calling for common sense gun laws for decades as children are murdered in mass in our schools. Come to think of it, anyone notice the lack of reporting around those these days. Another pile of dirt swept under the rug. How long until we admit that our current politicians are only on the side of the rich? The side that pays for their elections, not their healthcare. Our mayor was also in the Parade. I dont know much about him, but I do wonder what he does for us the days we aren't having fun in the streets. I wonder what his plan is for when they do show up. ICE was here a couple weeks ago and the city showed up, the citizens, but he wasn't there. Is that our future? Love to the face, abandonment when we turn around?
People of all different body types in leather outfits. Some are in harnesses, some pup masks, leather tops, fishnet, and spandex. Marching openly, rainbows dot the landscape. I am not part of the leather community, however I am inspired by them. I have always had body issues. I was a skinny kid who got fat in middle school, who got skinny on drugs in high school, who got fat on alcohol in college and throughout my twenties and thirties, to now get skinny in my California sobriety and hiking late 30s. Stretch marks line my body like tree bark, my story written in my scars. While I see survival, many only see ugly. I was once told I looked like a bear clawed me while provided a disgusted grimace after bedding an extremely physically attractive guy (clearly a shit personality). Oh how I admire their unabashed attitude about the shape or size of their body. Celebrated by the community for being fearless in the face of a society that only wants us to hate ourselves. It is a position I wish I could take. To be happy where I am. To not think about how I should have a six pack now that I am more fit, maybe I should be doing more, that my daily multi-mile walks, hikes, and kayak trips aren't enough. I have worked so hard over the last couple years to let so much of that programming go, but my body dysmorphia is still firmly planted in my brain.
More people in leather gear marching holding the leather pride flag. This year's pride really was amazing. It felt good to be able to participate in all the festivities. Park during the day, clubbing at night. I felt like I should have in my twenties. Getting out in the streets dancing, getting men's phone numbers and instagram handles. It was a little slice of heaven, something I have needed for so long since moving here. Minnesota nice isn't really that nice at all. They are standoffish, cliquey, and passive aggressive. I have been stopped on the street by people who act like they would like a friendship, only to message them later and be told they don't want anymore friends or don't have the space. It has been nice hearing back from the men this week, feels almost like a curse has ended. Or maybe I just danced my way into their cold midwest hearts.

I've been to many pride festivals, but holy crap #TwinCitiesPride is by far the best.
Loring Park, Saloon Block Party, the Eagle Pool Party, the parade, all so much fun. It was busy, but nothing was ever overcrowded and there were almost never lines to get drinks or use restrooms.
A+ all around.
Me, too handsome Pride fellas. #NorthMinneapolis #TwinCitiesPride

At #TCPride #TwinCitiesPride yesterday I told someone a perspective about Rocky Horror Picture Show that they had not considered before, and I could tell it lit a lightbulb in their brain. Like about Rocky Horror's place in queer culture in 2025. Maybe it's worth sharing so I will.
