The Bronze Age ‘Corrard Torc’ which was found in a bog in County Fermanagh by a metal detectorist in 2009. Now part of the collections at the Ulster Museum in Belfast. 📸 My own. #Prehistory #Archaeology #UlsterMuseum
A painting of a snowy scene in the Northern Irish countryside. A small row of houses sits, some chimneys lit, while people walk on slushy roads uphill. The sky is grey, with a streak of low sunlight peeking through.
This week's #OnlineArtExchange theme is, of course, Christmas!
It looks like we won't be having a white #Christmas this year, so enjoy 'Winter above Ligoniel' by Frederick W. Hull instead.

An ink and gouache artwork of a sunrise over the ocean. The ocean is a delightful mix of purples, blues, and yellows, while the sun's golden rays stretch over a morning sky. At the top of the artwork, the purple and black night sky is chased away by the rising sun.
This week's #OnlineArtExchange is 'the natural world' to mark the exhibition 'The Nature of Gothic' at Blackburn Museum 🌅
'Nature Rhythm - Dawn (Sunrise Meditation)' (1930), by Art O'Murnaghan, is an exquiste work of ink & gouache on card.

A woman has her head thrown back, her mouth open in a cry, her expression fearful. Her dark hair tumbles behind her. She wears beaded necklaces of blue and amber, and a laurel wreath is around her neck. We can see Troy in the background, the red glow of the sun dipped beneath the horizon ominously framing the city.
Today's #OnlineArtExchange theme is 'most dramatic artworks' 🎭
'Cassandra' (c.1863-64) by Frederick Sandys depicts the tragic cries of Cassandra - bestowed with the gift of prophecy, cursed to have no one believe her.

A painting of two workers in a field, bent over to gather from the earth. They hold baskets, while a horse and cart awaits in the near background. The sky looms overhead, grey and white, while a wind blows around the field - birds flocking, a thin green tree bending.
This week's #OnlineArtExchange theme is 'autumn' 🍂
'Field Workers' by William Wells is a painting of workers in a field on a breezy effervescent autumn day, masterly in execution and full of atmosphere.

In 1921-22, Jellett studied in Paris with Albert Gleizes, an early exponent of Cubism. In 1923, she exhibited two Cubist works in Dublin that were criticised for their modernity by George Russell. By the late 1920s, Jellett had, with, her friend and fellow painter Evie Hone, introduced an appreciation of modern painting to Ireland. This has irregular shapes in browns, orange, and grey ranges.
Mainie Jellett (1897-1944) Abstract, 1922. Oil on canvas:

A woman in fancy 18th century clothing cradles a white dog in her arm. He appears to be snoozing.
A young boy poses for a portrait in clothes that indicate he is intended to portray a poor beggar. He stands with one arm around his dog, holding his paw in his other hand as if making his dog wave to the viewer.
A family in 19th century clothing pose for a portrait in their study. A young child reaches for a small black and white dog to give him a pat on the head.

A circular ceramic, split in half. One half has text reading “here comes the shame”; the other reads “all he cares about it love”. On the left, the out rim reads “be careful”, with the right reading “they’re watching you”. The disc is decorated in plaid patterns.
An orange circular ceramic with the words “fear eats the soul”.
A circular ceramic with a pin triangle decorating the middle. In the triangle are the words “but we bring the fun!” The triangle hides text, which we can just discern reads “those…chaps”.
