#Viriconium by Harrison. Recently read. I'm a sucker for fantasy featuring merc units. (Technically, it's SF in a low tech future, aside from ancient artifacts dug from the grip of the wastelands.) Sleek prose. Could be a series.

Finally got around to reading M. John Harrison's 'Viriconium'. It's kind of Michael Moorcock meets Mervyn Peake round Jack Vance's house, and contains some of the best writing I've ever encountered.
