For Day 100, here's a bit more about my process for the project: My container was to create tree art for 100 days, but with the freedom to use any medium and any style. The point was to choose an inspirational subject that I would (hopefully) not tire of (I’ve always felt a kind of “kinship” with trees), and to push myself by shaking things up stylistically. In other words, how many ways could I think of to paint or draw a tree? Another goal: to reconnect to my art. Just over a year ago, I lost someone extremely dear to me, and for months afterward, I could barely pick up a paintbrush, or even a pencil. The old adage that the longer you stay away (from your art), the harder it is to get back is absolutely true. I needed a catalyst, and the 100 day project provided the perfect opportunity. For those who haven’t done the 100 day project, imagine this: You set out to create something for 100 days, and at first, it’s exciting. You’re full of ideas—at least enough to get a solid start. But invariably, you hit a wall, and the project isn’t shiny & new anymore. You’re tempted to quit. Sometimes you do. And, there’s no shame in that, of course; creativity has its own timetable, as many of us know. But, if you’re able to push through, there’s a certain grounding satisfaction to be had from making it to the end. In my case, I’ve proven to myself this year that I can reconnect to my art, even after a dry spell. So did I actually create a tree every single day of the 100? Well, yes. Not every tree was created on the specific day it was posted here, but all were created during this 100-day window. Another parameter: I had to create tree-related art every day out of the 100 days, even if that day’s tree didn’t make the final cut.
