I use this warmup for exploring new media—in this case, a couple of new inks—a different color palette, the interaction of a paint on a different paper, etc. Working into the inkblot is also a great way to exercise creativity. This one began with an inkblot that produced vaguely tree-like shapes, which I then developed into more obvious trees on a bank. The little creature was added after the blot, but in a non-deliberate, mark-making way that created a fun surprise. Ink study: Two bare-branched trees in neutral tones stand on opposite sides of the frame, almost connected on the ground by what appears to be a bank. A little creature sits in a contemplative pose beneath one of the trees.
From my sketchbook: As a warm-up some days, I’ll do a Rorschach-style inkblot, which I’ll then work into further. (Cont in ALT) #blueskyartshow #jagged #eastcoastkin #sketchbook #frommysketchbook #inksketch #inkblot #Rorschach #Rorschachstyle #inkart #traditionalart #inkabstract #treeabstract
