Happy #WattleDay! It’s not just the first day of Spring in the Southern Hemisphere, but it’s also a day to especially celebrate Australia’s more than 1000 species of acacia.

We’ve known #wattle makes for a great ambassador for a long time—and it certainly travelled around the world quickly!

Their book is a comprehensive guide to all 121 species and subspecies of wattles found in Victoria and Tasmania:

The yellow flowers of an Acacia falciformis with whitish anthers against their flat, matt-green phyllodes. A caption tells us: Each flower head is actually made up of many tiny flowers. These clusters of individual flowers are called ‘inflorescences’. The photo is credited as being by Alan Gibb, Wattles of Victoria and Tasmania.

The long dark brown seed pods of an Acacia amoena. Some are split open, revealing their near-black seeds inside. A caption tells us: "Wattles are legumes. They are in the same family of plants as peas, which is why the wattle pod looks so similar to a pea pod." The photo is credited as being by Alan Gibb for Wattles of Victoria and Tasmania.
