Vor einigen Jahren habe ich mir vorgenommen, keine Bücherreihen oder Bücher eines einzelnen Autors direkt hintereinander zu lesen. Diese Regel habe ich zwar nie ganz konsequent eingehalten, aber selten so sehr gebrochen wie beim Cosmere von Sanderson. Auch die zweite Ära der _Mistborn_ -Serie - auch bekannt als die _Wax and Wayne_ Ära - bildet da keine Ausnahme. Warum? Weil – mit Ausnahme von _Shadows of Self_ – alle Bände großen Spaß gemacht haben. Vielleicht lag es daran, dass ich gerade eine leichte Sommerlektüre gesucht habe. Oder daran, dass Sanderson sein Magiesystem aus der ersten Ära geschickt begrenzt und dadurch erweitert. Vielleicht auch, weil ich wusste, dass fast jede Szene in einer Schießerei endet. Im Ernst: Diese vier Bücher wären die perfekte Vorlage für ein Videospiel – irgendwo zwischen _Dishonored_ und _Spiderman_. Beeindruckend ist auch, wie sehr sich die Welt von Scadrial verändert hat – besonders nach dem drastischen Ende der ersten _Mistborn_ -Trilogie. Während _The Alloy of Law_ noch an einen Post-Western oder das viktorianische London erinnert, fühlt sich dieser Band eher wie das New York der 1920er Jahre an. Von Kutschen zu Autos und Flugschiffen. Und dann sind da noch die Figuren Wax und Wayne. Während Wax immer mehr zu einer Mischung aus Ironman, James Bond und Batman wird - inklusive Batcave und eigenen Waffen/Gadget Q - wird Wayne eher zu einem Meister der Verkleidung und Personas, universeller Trickbetrüger und dazu _Comic Relief_. Die Highlights in jedem Buch sind die Storyabschnitte in denen wir nur Wayne folgen. Am Anfang eines solchen Kapitels kann man nie sagen wie es enden wird. Und wenn man sich gerade an die Sprucheklopfer Rolle gewöhnt hat, wird es auf einmal ungewohnt ernst. Ich wäre voll und ganz für ein Spin-Off dass sich nur um Wayne dreht. Die _Cosmere_-Integration ist in diesem Buch deutlich präsenter als in den Vorgängern. Das kann man mögen oder nicht. Es geht hier nicht mehr nur um kleine Anspielungen oder bekannte Figuren, sondern fast schon um einen Retcon. Es lohnt sich, vor diesem Buch _Mistborn: Secret History_ zu lesen. Eine Figur kehrt zurück, die eigentlich nicht hätte zurückkehren sollen. Dass dies komplett in eine andere Geschichte ausgelagert wurde und es kaum Erklärungen für Neulinge gibt, finde ich etwas nachlässig. Außerdem werden hier schon die Weichen für die dritte Ära gestellt, die sich um eine Organisation dreht, die auch in den _Stormlight Archives_ wichtig ist. Mittlerweile fühlt sich das alles fast wie das _MCU_ an – vielleicht brauche ich bald Storyboards und einen roten Faden, um alles zu verfolgen. Das kann man mögen, muss man aber nicht. Okay, I lied. One more thing I need to say. I need y'all to know that Wayne Terrisborn gives me faith in the solitary strength of the written word. Brandon Sanderson's prose is terrific in general, but Wayne's especially is just so fun to read all the damn time that I think adapting this story to any other medium... I dunno, man. We'd lose something special in the process. I still WANT a Mistborn adaptation, because goddamn, does Sanderson deserve more eyes on his work. But that's besides the point. What a standout character in an already fantastic cast.

Oh, I’m enjoying this era of Mistborn. I like this western/ detective genre blend. The mc is absolutely cosmere batman- batman but waaaay more metal (😆) with a lot fewer hangups about flatlining people.
