Aufruf der Umwelt- und Klimabewegung um Ökologische kata-strophe am Tishreen damm Verhindern In solidarität mit dem Widerstand am Tishreen Damm!

Die aktuelle Situation - Mit den Angriffen, die am 27.11.2024 begannen, wurde das syrische Regime gestürzt und der türkische Staat und seine Söldner der SNA begannen, die Demokratische Selbst-verwaltung im Nordosten Syriens anzugreifen. Seitdem wurden nicht nur tausende Menschen vertrieben und hunderte Zivilisten getötet und verletzt, sondern es droht auch eine ökologische Katastrophe. Um dies zu verhindern, rufen wir alle Umweltbewegungen und Organisationen auf, gemeinsam den Tishreen-Damm zu schützen! Seit über einem Monat wehrt die SDF die Angriffe der SNA ab und hindert sie daran, den Euphrat zu überqueren und in die Stadt Kobanê einzudringen. Zwei Punkte, die den Fluss überqueren, sind inzwischen von strategischer Bedeutung: die Qereqozex-Brücke und der Tishreen-Damm.

Ökologische Katastrophe und Zerstörung von erneuerbaren - Da es den von der Türkei unterstützten SNA-Kräften nicht gelungen ist, den Tishreen-Damm einzunehmen, bombardiert der türkische Staat den Damm weiterhin. Durch die Bombardierungen besteht die Gefahr, dass der Damm bricht, was zu einer humanitären und ökologischen Katastrophe führen würde. Die Autonomiebehörde betonte, dass die Zerstörung dieser riesigen Wasserressource in ihrer Region mit einer Kapazität von 1,9 Milliarden Kubikmetern Wasser das biologische Leben entlang des Euphrattals, eine der ökologisch vielfältigsten Landschaft der Region, zerstören würde. Darüber hinaus ist der Tishreen Damm eine der wichtigsten nicht-fossilen Stromquellen der Region und kann den größten Teil Nordostsyriens mit Strom versorgen. Wenn er beschädigt wird, bleibt als einzige Stromquelle die Nutzung fossiler Brennstoffe, die in den letzten Jahrzehnten bereits großen Schaden an der Natur angerichtet haben. Die Tatsache, dass der türkische Staat nicht davor zurückschreckt, eine solche Katastrophe heraufzubeschwören, ist ein Zeichen für die Ökozid-Politik, die bereits zur Abholzung von Tausenden von Quadratkilometern in der Region und zu einer schrecklichen Wüstenbildung in Kurdistan, Syrien und dem Irak geführt hat.

Was tun? - Seit mehr als einem Jahrzehnt bauen die Menschen im Nordosten Syriens ein Gesellschaftssystem auf, das auf feministische Befreiung, Demokratie und Ökologie basiert. Wenn es gelingt, dieses Modell im Nahen Osten zu verbreiten, wird es eine konkrete Alternative zur umweltzerstörenden Politik der Staatsmächte darstellen und zu einer ökologischen Revolution in der gesamten Region beitragen. Um diesen dringend notwendigen ökologischen Wandel zu unterstützen und eine humanitäre und ökologische Katastrophe zu verhindern, ist es notwendig, gemeinsam und direkt Druck auf den türkischen Staat und die Staaten, die seinen Krieg unterstützen, auszuüben.

Call from the Ecological and Climate Movement to Prevent an Ecological Catastrophe on the Tishreen Water Dam In solidarity with the resistance on the Tishreen Water dam!

The Current Situation - With the attacks that started on 27th of November, the Syrian regime has fallen and the Turkish state and its mercenaries of the SNA started to attack the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North-East Syria. Since then not only have thousands been displaced and hundreds of civilians been killed and wounded, but also a threat of an ecological catastrophe is possible. To prevent this we call on all ecological Movements and Organizations to protect the Tishreen Dam together! For over a month now, the self-defense forces of the SDF have been repelling the attacks of the SNA, preventing them from crossing the river of Euphrates and invading the city of Kobanê. Two points that cross the river have become of strategic importance: the Qereqozex Bridge and the Tishreen water dam.

Ecological Catastrophe and renewable Energy Damaged - Since the Turkish backed SNA forces have failed to take the Tishreen Dam the Turkish state has continued to bomb the dam. These bombardments are putting the water dam in danger of collapsing, which would lead to a humanitarian as well as an ecological catastrophe. The Autonomous Administration emphasized that the destruction of this massive water resource in its region, with a capacity of 1.9 billion cubic meters of water, threatens to destroy the biological life along the Euphrates valley that is ecologically the most diverse landscape in the region. Furthermore, the Tishreen Water dam is one of the most important providers of non-fossil electricity in the whole region and is able to provide electricity for most of North-East Syria. If it gets damaged, the only source of electricity will be fossil fuels, which have already done great damage to the nature over the last decades. The fact that the Turkish state does not hesitate to cause such a catastrophe, means we can very well see its ecocidal politics that already caused deforestation of thousand of square meters in the region and the horrifying desertification in Kurdistan, Syria and Iraq due to water dams which Turkey constructed on its own territory.

What to Do? - For over a decade the people of North-East Syria have been creating a social system based on Women’s Freedom, Democracy and Ecology. If this model can be spread in the Middle East it will become a concrete alternative to the ecocidal politics of the state powers and contribute to an ecological revolution in the whole fertile crescent. To support this urgently needed ecological change and to avoid a humanitarian and ecological catastrophe, united and direct action is required to put pressure on the Turkish state and the states that support its war.
