I grabbed Widdick by the shoulders and looked him in the eye. "It's not too late though, right? We still have time?" I was sweating, and my voice quivered with desperation. For as much knowledge as he possessed, there were some questions Widdick couldn't answer. He shook his head. "I suppose we have as much time as we're going to get." What a terrifying notion. I sat down on the edge of the bathtub. It occurred to me that this was the very calamity Haniel had tried to warn us about before we stormed off. To think, I had just been enjoying the feeling of purpose that this mission gave me. I wanted to feel important, and now I was saddled with the most important task imaginable. I already missed my insignificance. Outside the bathroom, I could hear Sonny break something made of glass. "Is your friend okay?" Widdick asked, softly. "No, I can't imagine he is."
