A huge, multibranched brilliantly orange witch hazel (Hamamelis) tree absolutely lights up the flat grey sky to the person (me) below, looking up. The flowers look like thin tangles of orange thread but they are bright like burst of flame, in spite of their delicacy. The branches of the tree are tufted with a lovely acid-green moss as well, which is the most compelling combination with the orange! There are false-icicle christmas decorations along some branches but they are barely noticeable against the tremendous flower show. This would be a great spot to wait for Anna's hummingbirds, they *adore* witch-hazels, and this one is tall enough that they can perch and sing their lovely lisping here-I-am song safely.

The orange witchazel is in full glorious fragrant bloom. When the Christmas decorations were put on, it was in tight bud, not a single gleam of orange peeking out. Now it needs no adornment, it outshines everything!
