Joints aren’t just bones 🦴
Ligaments shape how vertebrates move
New study by @oliverdemuth.bsky.social et al in @jexpbiol.bsky.social combines in silico & ex vivo #XROMM of the partridge shoulder to show how ligaments constrain motion 🐦

#xromm
Thanks to generous funding from the Institute, we’ll be launching a world-class #XROMM facility dedicated to tech innovation. Opportunities to come for students (through the Quantitative Biosciences, Biology, or Applied Physiology PhD programs) and postdocs beginning in August 2026.
FYI for those doing #XROMM, we've now moved everything over to github: github.com/XROMMPackages
Yesterday my lab and @arielcamp.bsky.social 's lab met up at @ljmuofficial.bsky.social for an #XROMM workshop. A fun time was had by all.
Ultimately, this frivolity was so I now have a complete workflow in one software, so can combine #xromm data with simulation data all in the same world space and time in Blender.
Data here from 2014: www.pnas.org/doi/full/10....
Never before viewed in this integrated, complete, way
🚨 New paper! 🚨
Using #XROMM on 15 #bird species, we show that trachea deforms with neck movements. This reshaping could impact sound frequencies, showing that #biomechanics of the entire vocal system is important to consider when studying birdsong 🐦🎶 #ornithology
Now in @jexpbiol.bsky.social!
Birds in our #XROMM studies used extreme knee long-axis rotation to turn, maneuver, and evade obstacles. We suspect it's also involved in navigating arboreal substrates & foot-propelled diving, plus in crucial non-locomotor behaviors like preening, courtship & prey capture.
We used #XROMM to get 4-D X-ray vision into the leg skeletons of lizards, alligators, and birds moving around the laboratory. Bird fibulas move in a completely different way!
just over two weeks left to apply for this post-doc with me:

Excited to say the #XROMM toolkit for #blender (#b3d) is now accepted into the extensions repository. That means it's as easy to install as opening settings, going to addons, typing "xromm", and clicking install.

I made a Blender version of the #XROMM toolkit, that covers most of the functionality of the original scripts.
Time for more testers!
