Later letters from this collection show the Institute had shown The Aristocats in 1981 and Fox and the Hound in 1982.
Who remembers these films, or other Disney favourites, being shown at the Institute?

For #SoundAndVision we have a small collection of letters between the Blaenavon Workmen’s Institute and Walt Disney! #Archive30
This letter lists some of the films which were available in the 1970’s for showing including Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians and The Rescuers.
Mae llythyrau diweddarach o'r casgliad hwn yn dangos bod y Sefydliad wedi dangos The Aristocats ym 1981 a Fox and the Hound ym 1982.
Pwy sy'n cofio'r ffilmiau hyn, neu ffefrynnau Disney eraill, yn cael eu dangos yn y Sefydliad?
Ar gyfer #SainALlun mae gennym gasgliad bach o lythyrau rhwng Sefydliad y Gweithwyr Blaenafon a Walt Disney! #Archif30
Mae'r llythyr hwn yn rhestru rhai o'r ffilmiau a oedd ar gael yn y 1970au i'w dangos gan gynnwys Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians a The Rescuers.
Today is #NationalTeaDay. In 1984, Girl Guiding held a ‘Tea Making Fortnight’. Each Brownie Guide had to make at least 30 cups of tea as a Good Turn and record them in their Tea Passport. So why not mark today by having a cuppa? How’s that for an #ArchivePlan!

Mae heddiw’n #DiwrnodCenedlaetholTe. Yn 1984, cynhaliodd y Geids y ‘Pythefnos Gwneud Te’. Roedd rhaid i bob Geid wneud o leiaf 30 cwpaned o de fel Tro Da a chofnodi hynny yn eu Pasbort Te. Felly beth am nodi Heddiw gyda phaned o de? Dyna #CynllunArchif i chi! #Archif30
🚨New blog alert: For this month's theme of #EYACrime, @gwentarchives.bsky.social were kind enough to write a (bilingual!) blog post about the Usk Gaol books and the women's stories they contain! 📜

In this case, due to having very limited daguerreotypes within our collection and the photographs presenting the distinguished family members that hailed from the Crumlin/Newbridge area, it was a very easy yes in keeping them.
Here are three daguerreotypes that we have accepted into our collection recently. The photographs came in with a large family collection and required appraising due to the significant number of records that were initially deposited.
This archival process is called ‘appraisal’ and ensures that we are collecting relevant records that will benefit our researchers and represent the history and culture of the historic county of Gwent.
Let’s talk #AboutAppraisals. Here at Gwent Archives, we receive many deposits of records that reveal the history of the historic county of Gwent. Our Archivists take on the challenging task of deciding what records we should accept by determining if they have permanent archival value. #Archive30
Yn yr achos hwn, oherwydd bod daguerreotypes yn brin yn ein casgliad a bod y ffotograffau yn cyflwyno'r aelodau nodedig o'r teulu sy'n hanu o ardal Crymlyn/Trecelyn, roedd yn hawdd iawn cytuno i'w cadw.
Dyma dri daguerreotype yr ydym wedi'u derbyn i'n casgliad yn ddiweddar. Daeth y ffotograffau gyda chasgliad teuluol mawr ac roedd angen eu gwerthuso oherwydd y nifer sylweddol o gofnodion a adneuwyd i ddechrau.
Gelwir y broses archifo hon yn ‘gwerthuso’ ac mae'n sicrhau ein bod yn casglu cofnodion perthnasol a fydd o fudd i'n hymchwilwyr ac yn cynrychioli hanes a diwylliant sir hanesyddol Gwent.
Gadewch i ni siarad #AmWerthusiadau. Yma yn Archifau Gwent, rydym yn derbyn llawer o adneuon o gofnodion sy'n datgelu hanes sir hanesyddol Gwent. Mae ein Harchifwyr yn ymgymryd â'r dasg heriol o benderfynu pa gofnodion y dylem eu derbyn trwy benderfynu a oes ganddynt werth archifol parhaol #Archif30

Wrth ysgrifennu ochr yn ochr â'r 'cawell' papur, dywed "[I] have sent a butterfly as he caught yesterday, April 9th [18]78... I have put it in cage…for Emma". Ac os ydych chi'n codi'r 'cawell', gallwch weld bod y glöyn byw yn dal yno!
Writing alongside the paper ‘cage’, says “[I] have sent a butterfly as he caught yesterday, April 9th [18]78…I have put it in cage…for Emma”. And if you lift the ‘cage’, you can see the butterfly is still there!
Ar gyfer #RhoddArchif oeddem am ddangos yr eitem anarferol ond swynol yma o'n casgliad. Yn llyfrau lloffion William Edward New Clark, gallwn weld y 'cawell' papur hwn. #Archif30
For #ArchivePresent we wanted to show these unusual but charming item from our collection. Within the scrapbooks of William Edward New Clark, we can see this paper ‘cage’. #Archive30
Watch the video below to see the entire process of making a box for an oversized item! buff.ly/7OeI5od
Gwyliwch y fideo isod i weld y broses gyfan o wneud blwch ar gyfer eitem enfawr! buff.ly/7OeI5od
Phase boxes are made from two pieces of archival buffered solid board drawn and cut to the exact measurements of the oversized item and held together by cotton book tape. The box is made from two pieces of card, so no fastenings or glue are needed.
Mae’r blychau pwrpasol yn cael eu gwneud o ddau ddarn o fwrdd solet archifol wedi'u tynnu a'u torri i union fesuriadau'r eitem enfawr ac yn cael eu dal at ei gilydd gan dâp llyfr cotwm. Mae'r blwch wedi'i wneud o ddau ddarn o gerdyn, felly does dim angen caeau na glud.
However, we do have oversized items in our collection which are too big to fit in these standard sized boxes. For these items, our conservation team have to get creative, and our new guillotine enables them to make phase boxes.
