Am 4. April ist Barbara Buffa im Alter von 100 Jahren, einen Tag nach ihrem Geburtstag, im Seniorenheim St. Johannis in Hamburg-Harvestehude verstorben. Barbara Buffa prägte über Jahrzehnte hinweg den Modestil deutscher Frauen. Als Modechefin der Zeitschrift Brigitte war sie 26 Jahre lang eine der einflussreichsten Stimmen der Branche. Mit großer Entschlossenheit und sicherem Gespür brachte sie die internationale Mode – insbesondere von den bedeutenden Pariser Laufstegen – nach Deutschland. Für ihre Verdienste um die französische Mode wurde sie 1977 mit der Silbermedaille der Stadt Paris ausgezeichnet. „Ich habe mein Leben stets nach meinem Geschmack und meiner Meinung ausgerichtet“, sagte sie im Alter von 90 Jahren in einem Interview mit Martina Goy im Hamburger Abendblatt. Dieser Haltung blieb sie zeitlebens treu. Äußerst selbstbewusst setzte sie sich für den Modestil der deutschen Frauen nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg ein. 1926 in Dresden geboren, zeigte Barbara Buffa früh Interesse an einer künstlerischen Ausbildung. Während des Krieges lebte sie zeitweise in Traben-Trarbach. Der Besuch der Kunstakademie in Weimar blieb ihr auf Wunsch des Vaters verwehrt. Stattdessen wandte sie sich dem Modedesign zu, erlernte das Schneiderhandwerk und wurde letztlich die mächtigste Modejournalistin der 60er und 70er Jahre. Sie war zehn Jahre lang mit einem Bomberpiloten verlobt, von dem sie sich schließlich trennte, als dieser eine Familie gründen wollte. Als Moderedakteurin der Brigitte arbeitete sie eng mit dem Fotografen F. C. Gundlach zusammen und machte ihn durch seine Aufnahmen der Models bekannt. Sie war die Erste, die Modefotografie ins Ausland verlagerte und erreichte bei den Fluggesellschaften Rabatte für ihr Team. „Ich hatte nie Zweifel an meinen Entscheidungen“, sagte sie rückblickend. ich lese gerade im Newsletter der Galeristin Renate Kammer, dass die langjährige Modechefin der Brigitte, Barbara Buffa, gestorben ist. Frau Kammers Nachruf bringt die Bedeutung von Barbara Buffa für die Mode der dt. Frauen in den Nachkriegsjahrzehnten gut auf den Punkt und ich poste den Text hier.

Synagogue organist Erwin Jospe was born #OTD in 1907. In 1935 he was expelled from the RKK. In 1937 he moved to the US and became musical director and organist of a large reform church in Cleveland.

In Nov 1938, pianist Lisa Jura (born #OTD in 1924) had her piano lessons cancelled. In August 1939, she boarded a train and said goodbye to her parents after her father secured a single ticket on the Kindertransport.
