It was on the top of my most wanted ✅ list. Now it’s on the top of my favourite twitches. Pagham’s Woodchat Shrike.

Basingstoke Hoopoe was great see at amazingly close quarters yesterday. Classic residential twitch! #kowa883 #iphone16pro @birdguides.bsky.social
Out looking for displaying Goshawk. Super surprised to see see a Marsh Harrier enjoying the thermals. Similar area to where the Berks/Bucks/Oxon Booted Eagle was a couple of years ago so this intially got the heart thumping! 🙂 @bucksbirdclub81.bsky.social
A full report here of the amazing Mediterranean gull currently visiting Pennington Flash, which apparently is the oldest on record from a ringing recovery, includes a photo of the bird as a nestling 🤯 #PFBirding #UKBirding

@marlowbirder.bsky.social picked out a Caspian this evening at LMGP that we suspect is a return bird from 2023. A noticeably closed right eye and long bill seem to match. @bucksbirdclub81.bsky.social
A lovely write up of a nice morning in MK.
Don’t forget to register for the RSPB Big Garden Bridwatch. A brilliant bit of citizen science that is a great way of getting friends family and neighbours involved in birds (spread the word!!).
A fabulous start to the club’s 2026 evening lectures. Many thanks to Mark Sullivan for your brilliant tour of all things birding in north-east Scotland

My early Jan trip to Staines Reservoir is always worth it. Great northern Diver, Blackredstart and these two Scaup where highlights. Greater in foreground Lesser at the back. 🙂 #ukbirds
A few 2025 Bucks highlights for me. Here’s to more in 2026 🍾🥂 @bucksbirdclub81.bsky.social
Last full day in Edinburgh yesterday. A mixture of regular waders at close quarters was nice on beach beside seafield sewage works. Seal carcass seemed fresh and pretty “clinical” 🤷🏻♂️ @whalesorg.bsky.social Propeller or even Orka??
A nice 90min at Longniddry Bents. 150 LTDucks, Mergansers, RT Divers and BT Divers offering nice view. Slavs, GC and BN Grebes also making an appearance along side rafts of scoter and Eider. Such a fabulous strip of coastline. 🎄 🏴 #ukbirding @scottishbirding.bsky.social
Christmas in Edinburgh means a week based in East Lothian. Late afternoon scanning from the sea wall Musselburgh. Plenty about as always. Velvet Scoter, LT Ducks and Slav were highlights
A day at Abberton Res birding with Pete and a good friend. As always, over-whelming numbers of waterbirds to scan through. We saw six Smew (2 drakes, 4 redheads), Lesser Scaup, 10 Greater Scaup, 2 Slavs, 3 Common Scoter. Couldn't find the Little Stints. Beautiful light.

Thanks Jamie, it was one of those ones that felt good from one angle then not sure the next angle. I was considering hybrid. Will keep an eye out for it over the next few months. 👍🏻👍🏻
Little bit of a head scratcher this evening at LMGP. Didn’t seem quite right for a 2W Casp. Is this a dainty looking YLG? Seen in flight tail looked good for Casp but no clear views of the wings #gullsarehard
Looks very similar to a Caspian we had in South Bucks a couple of years back P:0P3. Same ringing group I assume. 🙂👍🏻
Good news for St Kilda but equally sobering news for Bass Rock.

Fantastic work well done Ken and the team at @lesserspotnet.bsky.social. a blueprint for counties that still have breeding territories such as Bucks to follow @bucksbirdclub81.bsky.social
In addition to it. This 2W made for a nice double act!
A 1w Caspian Gull the highlight on an otherwise wet afternoon walk in south Bucks. It flew off to LMGP roost direction at sunset. @bucksbirdclub81.bsky.social
This adult Caspian Gull was a late arrival in the evening gloom at Little Marlow Gravel Pit this evening. Gull numbers have been decent the last few weeks, but Casps have been few and far between

Our chance to actually see each other face to face! Four speakers with a focus on Bucks birding, with half-time tea and refreshments. Non-members welcome!
One consideration I note (prob as an ex portrait photographer) is the difference in the key light in the eyes. Yes I appreciate, they are facing different directions but it’s very different (WT flat horizontal and CT upright narrow). Probably different light sources IMHO 👍🏻
During my return from an unexpected trip to 🏴 I thought I would break the journey in 1/2 at Gretna for the Richardson’s Cackling Goose. Managed eventually to pick it out of the c3000 Barnies. Small Size ✅ short neck ✅ steep forehead ✅, single bird ✅. @birdguides.bsky.social
