My hat is more than it seems.

It’s made from #mushroom #mycelium, the fine, fibrous network that weaves through soils across the world, connecting #ecosystems beneath our feet.

This is why we use mycelium in Host Defense products.

See mushroomreferences.com for the latest information.

This month, New Mexico allocated $630,000 to create the first #medical #psilocybin equity fund in the US, aiming to ensure access regardless of income.
At the same time, legislation is advancing in Massachusetts, & King County, Washington has moved to support research/deprioritize enforcement.

Ancient Mushroom, Modern Medicine: Paul Stamets Says Agarikon Mycelium May Be Key to Fighting Viral Pandemics Stay on top of emerging IT trends in biomedicine. Read the latest news on genomics, computational science, and more. Get recent updates today!

This research builds on decades of work studying #Agarikon (Fomitopsis officinalis), one of the rarest #medicinalmushrooms. We now have 120 strains of Agarikon in culture, in pursuit of identifying a potential “super strain” for #pandemic defense.

Published in BMC #Immunology, the study found the #fungal combination was safe, reduced vaccine side effects, and did not compromise #antibody response, with antibody levels sustained and in some cases increased at six months.

Hi 🍄 folks!

At the #IMC27, I shared results from our placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial with @ucsandiego.bsky.social & the Krupps Center for Integrative Research, led by Gordon Saxe, MD, PhD, studying #Agarikon and #TurkeyTail #mycelium alongside #mRNA #COVID19 vaccination.

I built my company to fund this kind of research. This milestone belongs to the scientists, the team & to everyone who believed #fungi could help change the trajectory of #humanhealth

🙏 Thank you for your support on this long but epic journey.

Please read the study & please share the science.

For years, conventional medicine has asked for placebo-controlled randomized clinical trials.

💯 This is it.

We now have two clinical studies showing reproducibility. This is another scientific success from our team and a powerful step forward in validating #fungi through rigorous science.

👋 Hi #Myconauts

We did a lot of 🍄 foraging this year, from edible and choice species, to poisonous, and more! Thanks to all of you for coming along for the ride.

Can’t wait to see what fungi we find in 2026 !

... #Mushrooms are complex organisms, and oversimplifying them leads to poor outcomes.
These results track with 2 recent double blinded clinical studies using mushroom #mycelium fermented rice - compared to a rice placebo, post ingestion.

Disclosure: I own Host Defense. The science is solid.

... The #mycelium extract supported a balanced, adaptable immune response. Under certain conditions, the fruiting body extract increased pro-inflammatory signaling.
As functional #mushrooms move into the mainstream, rigorous science, proper extraction & ingredient standardization are essential.

You don’t get to assume #bioactivity from a species name. You test the actual preparation.

Important #disclaimer so nobody gets weird: this is a preprint and still under peer review. But the direction is clear enough to be interesting, and it reinforces something I’ve been saying for years:

Also notable: the #mycelium showed stronger #antioxidant and iron-chelating activity than the fruiting-body extract in this setup.

...extract. Under the same challenge, the fruiting-body extract nearly doubled IL-1β, while the #mycelium drove it down. Same species, different material, different immune outcome. That’s a big deal for anyone who thinks “Lion’s Mane is Lion’s Mane.”

... #mycelium prep consistently reduced classic stress cytokines like IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-8, while keeping baseline #cytokines low. In other words: modulate, don’t light the place on fire.
