Very happy to see this published. My co-conspirator in all things conference-related, @cbkenkar.bsky.social, and I are so proud of the students who wrote this review and grateful to everyone who made the event such a special one.
I'm sick of the cold and the snow and the winter so let's just have a good cry as Geneviève bids farewell to Guy on the train platform to the achingly gorgeous strains of "I Will Wait For You" by composer Michel Legrand BOTD (1932-2019)

BIG THANKS to the organizers for the 5th Literature/Film Association & AAS Joint Online Conference for another successful collaboration! 🫶 @grossmjj.bsky.social & @ssedaozz.bsky.social & Tom Leitch & Allen Redmon & John Sanders. Lots to digest this weekend!
Julie Grossman writes, "I think about one critic's comment about Gloria Grahame's roles in film noir--that she was always on the sidelines where she could cause the most trouble. Gloria=adaptation studies?" Two hearts for that. Tom Leitch responds "YES!!" (with one heart).
Exhibit A to illustrate the best sidebar chat in academic conferencing, captured during Day Two of LFA/AAS & featuring @grossmjj.bsky.social with Tom Leitch.
BONUS - Valentine's Day 🥰

EXTENDED DEADLINE: AAS 2026 is now accepting proposals until 15 January 2026!
Looking forward to seeing this!
Ahh, correcting my last post: she bristled at the phrase and did repeat it, and I was remembering an article where she referred to herself this way and also the “Academy Award” reference, but as @pmbryant.com reminds us, the original phrase comes from an earlier Hedda Hopper item in 1943. Thank you!
In the “Academy Award” episode of MR ADAMS AND EVE the awards announcer’s voice is a parody of Bette Davis’s, continuing the “joke.”
Interesting piece, though of course “the poor man’s Bette Davis” line was Lupino’s own, perhaps an exaggeration of her self-deprecation and frustration with the mishegas of Hollywood (which drove her to want to make her own films anyway!).
The full schedule is now *live* for 'To Save and Project' at MoMA in NYC, Jan 8 - Feb 2, 2026!!! 😍🎞️ So many gems in this line-up!

Really looking forward to this—tomorrow, Friday, 12-1pm Eastern! Still time to register! @adaptstudies.bsky.social @adaptationtoday.bsky.social
