Happy birthday to Philip Rufford, born #onthisday in 1852! This Cretaceous fossil plant, Otozamites klipsteinii, is ~140 million years old & was collected by Philip in the 1890s in his favourite collecting area east of Hastings. See it on display in our Dinosaur Gallery! @hastingsbc.bsky.social

There are some weird & wonderful objects in the Museum’s stored collections. One of them is a strange egg-laying mammal that looks like a mix of a duck, beaver & an otter.
