Back in the riparian area on the way back, a close up of the silicon rich, hollow stem and spore producing tip of Rough horsetail (Equisetum hyemale). The myriad of pentagons are fascinating. The five-fold symmetry reminds me of echinoderms like you see on a sea lily (crinoid) base (11/n) 🦑

1/2 Seen today Rhizocarpon reductum ("form fimbriata" according to Dobson) on the flints of the walls of the estate where my mum lives in Rottingdean, built 1981. Soft spring colors of gray, brown, and green. Moss, lichen, and last year's tree leaves line a solid rock path to the top of Crow Knob, a southern Illinois landmark. Yesterday, April 19, 2026 was a glorious day in the forest.

Climbing Crow Knob in Shawnee National Forest. I had a moment when I felt like I was looking at a coral reef on the sea floor. A spectacular display of moss and lichen on solid stone.

石垣上の葉状地衣類。コナヒメウメノキゴケ？　3-4mm程度の青緑色の地衣体が並び、そこそこの割合がパスチュールで覆われる。

一部クロップ。子器の旺盛な部分。0.5-2mmのものが大小20程度写っており、パスチュールの生じたいびつな果托に囲まれた赤サビ色の子器盤を見せている。

他の箇所。脇から見えてるのはシリアかなと思ったけど偽根と区別がつかない。

腹面がペロッと見えている。腹面は暗い褐色で黒い短い偽根がたくさん。

(記録は3月の高雄町に戻ります。まだ寺に辿り着いてません)

子器のフチまでパスチュール。こういうのほとんど見たことないので嬉しい。
地衣体があんまり皺っぽくない。さっき見た似たものとまた別種かもしれない。

今迄も地衣類は沢山見てはいる
のですが今一つup出来なかった
のは己の興味不足？愛情不足？
を自覚していたからで…
（ハナゴケ科は可愛い✨）
他の方の写真に圧倒される…

でも今日見た個体は、端っこの
ミルククラウンみたいなヒダが
とても素敵✨で、
“やや？！コレはupせねば！”
という気になりました！

先々週に行った広島市現代美術館のエイドリアン・バーグもよかったんだよ〜。さっき書いたひろしま美術館のマルケが水辺の風景を描き続けたように、バーグは主に英国の庭園を描き続けたんだけど、植物の時間と空間がギュッと圧縮されてキャンバスに閉じ込められていて、目の前に立つとぐいぐい引き込まれるような没入感がある。
