Deadline approaching for 3-year postdoc position in Bergen.
Head engineer position advertised in ancient DNA lab at the University of Oslo associated with the EcoArch project: www.jobbnorge.no/en/available...
We are destroying species' habitats, leading to a mass extinction event.
This habitat destruction also reduces the genetic diversity _within_ species.
Our latest work develops quantitative models to predict how much genetic diversity has been and _will be_ lost.

So cool to see our paper finally out! Thanks to a fantastic team of co-authors 🐟🧬 @biovitenskap.bsky.social @unioslo-cees.bsky.social
Your illustations are just wonderful 🤩🤩 thanks for being wiling to do all these codfishes for us 🙌🙌😅
Finally is the paper where we present the unique genomic architectures of the Arctic codfishes out!! Nice work by @gadus-sivus.bsky.social and co-authors …

New results on Littorina fabalis ecotypes! 🐌
Inversions aren't just enabling parallel adaptation to wave exposure in France & Sweden, they're also hotspots for site-specific differences, including a striking color QTL associated with one inversion but only in France.

Great accomplishment for our institute. A special issue on capelin research. Here is the editorial:

How does genetic architecture constrain evolutionary trajectories? To address this question, we inferred the genetic architecture of convergent plumage coloration and its evolutionary history in wheatears.
Super happy to see our paper out! Reference choice matters, especially if you work with species that has lots of chromosomal rearrangements 🧬🐟
This work was conducted as part of the Nansen Legacy project by the talented @mariusmaur.bsky.social during his master project.
New paper out where we demonstrate how pop gen parameters and scoring of structural variants (inversions) could be affected by the choice of reference genome (both in terms of both quality and relatedness).

Breaking genetics news‼️🌱🌽 A natural DNA trick triples recombination in maize. What we first saw in Arabidopsis (@hendersi lab) a decade ago is now confirmed in crops—opening new doors for plant breeding. Published today in Nature Plants! More details 👉 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Out after peer review, collaborative study from Nordborg & Weigel labs with help from many others. Not the largest collection of new Arabidopsis thaliana genomes, but we hopefully put forward some good ideas for how to think about pangenomes and their analysis!

For mere info se:

Utrolig at Forsvarsdepartementet prøver å benekte helt klare fakta: Reisetid ER tillagt vekt, og utgjør avgjørende faktor i lokaliseringsvurderingen.
Uten å vekte reisetid, eller vekte annerledes, kommer andre alternativer enn Hurum bedre ut. Det må man stå for. borsen.dagbladet.no/nyheter/giga...

If the observed alterations in genomic signal affect their long term resilience is up for debate … and e.g., linked to the past years shift in their distribution and where they spawn … this urge for higher awareness on how we exploit out stocks ‼️ @unioslo-cees.bsky.social @biovitenskap.bsky.social
Ecological modeling and adaptive genome-wide scans show that these shifts were coupled to intensified fishing pressure, reduced generation time, and the ongoing ocean warming ➡️ sparking earlier debates on how fisheries and other anthropogenic perturbations affect long-term genome-wide changes.
Our genome-wide retrospective characterization uncovered intensified directional gene from the non-migratory coastal cod in modern times (post millennium) ➡️ indicating increased hybridization events and/or survival of hybrids.
