Completely mad that the Smithsonian is going to stop supporting the Biodiversity Heritage Library on 1 January 2026. Every old ass taxonomic description, dating back to the 17th or 18th century even, I have read and still read is through here.
Someone please give it a new home.
And… do you know the other species? 😉
Contributions to the #collections! Nice with asp, it’s not common in west Sweden! #fish #museum #cyprinidae

It’s something special about Northern bats (E. nilssonii). I love them 😍
Just when we thought we couldn’t love #bats any more, there’s this: storm-surfing bats! 🦇😀❤️New research shows migrating bats hitch rides on stormy tailwinds to save energy, covering hundreds of kms in a single night! 🦇 @mpi-animalbehav.bsky.social @unikonstanz.bsky.social
Did check a small natural cave (Tjuvakistan ”thiefs coffin”) close to my home in southern Sweden during lunchbreak today. Brown long-eared bat and Herald moths was found hibernating. #bats #moths #caves #hibernation
I take a Christmas brake, only Vespertilio is awake…
(I heard them singing yesterday when I left the museum) 🦇❄️🎅🏻
