Yesterday was #WorldPoetryDay. If any of you lovely humans feel like supporting a worthy, wordy cause, Swadlincote Festival of Words is a community festival close to my heart. We're a tiny team of volunteers & every little really does help. Thank you 🙏🏻 bit.ly/SFOW26-Donate

Village

Dr Seuss said it all:
‘A person’s a person,
no matter how small’.

Let’s say the same for a village:
It isn’t the size that matters,
but how many hearts
call it home.

"... if life was always perfect you would never be sad, or angry, and those emotions are very important. They make us human."

So much wisdom to be found in this story from young writer Isabelle Paruzel-Gibson.

Winning Wars With Peace
by Pallavi Jesrani

When injustice reigned
all across the land,
they raised uplifting voices,
and took a steadfast stand.

One sought independence
one strove for civil rights,
with strong resolve and passion
that scaled the highest heights.

They both revered the truth,
and each one had a dream.
Their stirring words aroused,
and thousands joined their team.

At no time did they use
arms or ammunition.
Non-violence was a core
value of their missions.

They marched away to Dandi.
Made their own free salt.
Marched off to Montgomery,
and led a bus boycott.

A perfect #kidlit poem for MLK Day by @paljes.bsky.social, "Winning Wars With Peace" honors the lives and legacies of both MLK and Gandhi.
