cutting from Daily Express 9/9/1914, p. 4, photo of young woman wearing form of nursing uniform, captioned: A member of the "Daily Express" Nursing Corps photographed yesterday at Selfridge's wearing the special badge with the regulation overall and cap. Inset is an enlarged reproduction of the badge.
Does anyone know of any work on the ‘Daily Express Nursing Corps’, formed in August 1914? I’m researching someone who apparently paid for the training, exams, & uniform but then was unable to secure relevant employment. #WW1 #NursingHistory #histmed #medicalhistory

Wonderful job opportunities coming up in Berlin!
A page of cursive handwriting featuring a flourish about the final D of each word.
Title page of "A Syllabus of the Lectures on Midwifery, Delivered at Guy's Hospital, 1813 and 1814" by Dr. Haighton.
The book open at two page. The left shows a printed syllabus with information about the placenta, the righthand page is filled with handwritten notes on the topic.
Image shows the marbled cover of the book.
For #HandwritingDay, step into an 1813 classroom. This book belonged to a student who attended Dr Haighton’s midwifery lectures at Guy’s. The writing is in a flowing cursive. Look for the flourish on the letter D. It’s interleaved: a printed syllabus bound together with blank pages for notes.

We have been watching #Amadeus and the opening titles piqued our interest. The animations show the making of catgut, a material used for both musical instruments and for surgical suturing. We've paired some stills with images from our collection to show how catgut was made 🧵🪡
