In most parts of what is now the Czech Republic there was a custom of "tree shouting". The ritual happened before dawn and people were striking trees with a stick or wooden spoon while loudly shouting. This was to awake the trees at the end of winter and ensure a good harvest.
A small, woven basket tucked full of spring veggies (lettuces and radish) rests on the grass.
The old saying "one for the rook and one for the crow, one to die and one to grow" meant that being generous with your seeding was wise as it offered more chance of germination, especially since planting near the surface of the earth meant seeds could be disturbed or nibbled up. #FolkloreThursday

In British folklore, April 14th is traditionally k/as "Cuckoo Day" (also St Tiburtius's Day) as it signals the arrival of the first cuckoo which marks the beginning of Spring and the expectation of warmer weather that will follow 😎
