They're coming fast and furious. Here's another. Recording mentioned, but detecting at the corner of graveyards is never a good idea. Too many potentials to disturb human remains.

"It's not about the money" pt 2: "She is not auctioning her items for monetary reasons but hopes her finds will go to "someone who loves history"". If ONLY there were places which display old stuff to which she could give her finds so anyone "who loves history" could go and look at them for free
It's all about giving back to us .... hmmmm.
C'mon decision makers dig deep, be brave, make it ethically, morally and legally right before we haemorrhage finds to private collections.
Is it so difficult 😫

.....the Waltham Abbey Historical Society, and private donations pulled together to buy it. (Think where that money could have gone)
Otherwise guess what folks.... it would have no doubt been sold to the highest bidder.
Alternatively it could have been donated it in the national interest 🤔

Detectorist "had a funny feeling this is going in a museum".

Will be sold to highest bidder - collection broken up, histories lost & disappearing into private collections, some overseas...
Issue of legacy collections - where owners or heirs don't want things, will only get more common...

A fossil bed in China containing animals up to 554 million years old suggests that we may have to reconsider the idea that life suddenly diversified during the Cambrian explosion
Whilst out on a stroll in Battle High Street, I spied this rather interesting box of Roman goodies in the window of the Doctors. These two are examples of a set from Pompeii ! Fabulous.

Acquired in this case means OUR history held financially at ransom again !
"Detectorist" described experience as "a once-in-a-lifetime"
(Let's hope we all get that feeling when we see it in the museum, however what IF Lincoln Museum can't afford it)

A Fakirs sandal
Bexhill Museum has a wonderful new shoes display, this early c20th example of sandal doesn't look overly comfy ...
A fakir is a Muslim or Hindu ascetic, holy man, or wandering mendicant who renounces worldly possessions. They are often associated with Sufism.
Arrest after the G2 Listed Big Mill in Leek Staffordshire is gutted by fire.
The BBC backgrounder reports a history of anti-social behaviour and dissatisfaction with the speed of the developer who had sought planning consent to convert the 19th century mill into flats.
I suspect fake news ..... it certainly has a story to tell though
#StaircaseSunday folks
We visited C12th St Michael's Church, Playden and spied their most interesting staircase/access lader, built in 1686. It has some interesting etching and dates, its no longer in use but still stands.
