Yesterday, I joined several community changemakers for the #WeAreUnited March from the Freedom Tower in #Miami.
Thanks to my counterpart, Matt Anderson, and the Mosaic Miami team for facilitating this meaningful demonstration of solidarity. (2/2)

๐งต (1/2) Civil rights aren't conditional. Human rights aren't optional.
In the U.S., those tenets should be non-negotiable. This is why @fji.law advocates for Florida's most vulnerable populations.
@fji.law is proud to stand with #MosaicMiami in a show of solidarity. See you there!
My deep appreciation to Holland & Knight, Gelber Schachter & Greenberg, P.A., Community Justice Project, Light After Life, and Charles Throckmorton for their investment.

The legal system can create positive change in our communities. No one is above the law. No one should be beneath it either. Judicial officers help uphold that concept.
Members of the local/state/federal bench get complimentary tickets to @fji.law's upcoming Signature Event on 4/16. See you then!
Appreciate our partners from H&K's #Miami office for sponsoring @fji.law's Signature Event!
Thanks to FJI board member, Tiffani Lee, for facilitating this investment to help us champion justice in #Florida! There are still a few sponsor tiers available. Secure yours here: www.fji.law/celebration

#OTD in 1866, the Civil Rights Act of 1866 became law, establishing birthright citizenship and equal rights under the law. Its promise has been challenged ever since. #TheMarchContinues

#FBF: During @americanbar.org Criminal Justice Section's Spring Meeting, I learned that the rule of law declined globally every year since 2017.
That's why @fji.law works to preserve human rights for those in the margins of society. Proud to engage in these efforts for a more equitable #Florida.
We are excited to have Markenzy Lapointe as the keynote speaker for our 2nd Annual Signature Event.
Markenzyโs extensive career gives him a unique and powerful perspective on the courts and how the law impacts our communities.

Again, this punitive approach doesn't address the lack of access to affordable housing. That's why @fji.law challenges officials in Miami Beach and statewide to do better with meaningful solutions: fji.law/our-recent-w... (2/2)
๐งต (1/2) Not only is #MiamiBeach one of the least affordable cities for renters in #Florida, but they've also chosen to criminalize those unable to meet their basic needs. As @miamiherald.com reports about 2025, "almost half of all arrests in the city โ 45% โ were of people who are homeless."
With 2 weeks to go until @fji.law's Signature Event, the press is highlighting the 'Wilson v. Dixon' case. Learn why FJI's work matters by seeing it firsthand.

5. 19 million people in the US have felony records, barring them from many jobs, like bartending, car sales, and pest control
If a felony doesn't stop someone from being president, why should it ban them from more ordinary employment opportunities?

That's why @fji.law takes its work so seriously. For #NationalSecondChanceMonth, FJI is highlighting why smarter approaches to #CJReform matter to creating safer, more vibrant communities: fji.law/what-we-do/ (2/2)
๐งต (1/2) Today may be #AprilFoolsDay, however, #Florida's carceral system is no laughing matter. According to @prisonpolicy.org, the state incarcerates a higher percentage of its residents than any other democracy on the planet. This isn't a joke.
Grateful to Gelber Schachter & Greenberg, P.A. for sponsoring @fji.law's upcoming Signature Event! Thank you to Shane for facilitating this investment.

As temperatures rise in #Florida, one of the most vulnerable populations is subject to unrelenting heat: imprisoned people.
"But a lawsuit [@fji.law] filed in 2024 against the Florida Department of Corrections alleges extreme heat has contributed to recent deaths at Dade Correctional Institution."
Renters must earn roughly $65/hr to afford a 2-bedroom, market-rate unit in Miami Beach. This is why @fji.law urges leaders to be more thoughtful about their approach to housing insecurity.

๐งต (1/2) While cities like #MiamiBeach and the rest of #Florida criminalize unhoused populations, these policies do not address the underlying issue that directly contributes to homelessness: lack of affordability.
Anti- DEI efforts are driven by what many call โpolite racismโ โ the strategic use of coded language that appears neutral but works to maintain social hierarchies & suppress marginalized voices in practice.
"The Perversion of Woke" assesses how this language masks exclusion: https://bit.ly/4usMRC8
