Our #GreenTalent team had a fantastic time working towards their Great Crested Newt Licence with Froglife Ecological Services.
Brilliant training, made even better by such a fun & enthusiastic course leader & group!
A real highlight was spotting great crested & smooth newts by torchlight!
Whilst out on an amphibian torching survey at Hampton Nature Reserve, our Reserve Warden and her volunteers found a great crested newt laying eggs!
As you can see, she has been busy laying on the surrounding vegetation as nearly all the leaves have been folded.
The science from #Buglife is clear.
Flea treatments in rivers & ponds sees up to 90% insect decline. Bad news for our amphibian species!

Our 'Peterborough Neighbourhood Wildlife Corridors' project has been working with children at Leighton Primary School to improve their green space.
They cleaned out the pond at the end of last year and they now have common frog tadpoles!
A great way to see the frog lifecycle in action!
Glyphosate use in the UK has surged by over 1000% since 1990, posing serious risks to wildlife.
Amphibians are especially vulnerable, with exposure shown to harm development from early life.

Say hello to a newly discovered frog!
This stunning green species is no ordinary amphibian – it’s a marsupial frog. That means it has a pouch, allowing it to nurture its young safely, rather than relying on ponds for egg development.

There are a lot of animals that will eat frogspawn including newts. Corvids, rats and even foxes will take it too. This is why frogs are explosive breeders, but it doesn't always work.
