We’re so pleased that our #GreenTalent team were able to remove graffiti from the information boards at Boardwalks Nature Reserve.

A tree had fallen over a path at Boardwalks Nature Reserve. So, to improve the access to the ponds, the #GreenTalent team cleared it back and created log piles that will provide food, shelter, and breeding sites for variety of wildlife.

Amazing signs of resilience at Boardwalks NR in Peterborough!
A pond restored by our #GreenTalent trainees in Oct 2025 is now full of water, invertebrates, and signs of great crested newt breeding (folded leaves!).

What a buzz!
Our #GreenTalent team were delighted to see lots of bees feasting on a freshly flowered goat willow during a recent visit to Eye Green Nature Reserve.
Early spring flowers like goat willow are an important food source for pollinators emerging after winter.
#GreenTalent trainee, Jesse, visited Emmaus Cambridge recently, it was great to see two excellent ponds in their gardens.
No amphibians spotted but Jesse did spot a massive pond snail with the help of a feathered friend.
Stairway to Survey!
The Peterborough #GreenTalent Trainees and volunteers were at Hampton Nature Reserve to help get some of the ponds ready for surveying.
The banks were very steep and tough to access, so steps were needed!
#DYK Mating balls & 'pile ups’ are very common with common toads?
The competition is fierce & any chance they get, males will try & mate with their found females…whether there's space or not!
Thanks to our Peterborough #GreenTalent Trainee Andrew for the brilliant footage!

#DYK There is a huge amount of competition for partners during mating season?
Common toads are no different. Have a look at the lengths some toads will go to to secure and keep hold of a mate.
Thanks to our Peterborough #GreenTalent Trainee, Andrew, for the brilliant footage!
The annual toad migration is happening at the moment, follow our #GreenTalent Project Trainee, Andrew’s walk in the woods to find them.

Our Reserve Warden extends a big thank you to our #GreenTalent team for all their help on Hampton Reserve.
Whilst parts of Eye & Boardwalks have been flooded stopping works, they have been plugging away at Hampton instead.
Here are Jesse & Andrew (& volunteer Peter) with a newt they found
Our #GreenTalent team returned to Eye Green Nature Reserve with their waders on!
The fridge is officially out of the lake... along with lots of other litter, creating a cleaner, healthier habitat for local wildlife.
Our #GreenTalent team, with the help of some passionate volunteers, attempted to remove a fridge from the lake at Eye Green NR!
Unfortunately, additional tools were needed & some waders, so they didn’t quit manage it. However, they did manage to remove a lot of other surrounding litter.
Back in October, two Froglife projects, #LondonBlueChain & Peterborough #GreenTalent, dug a new clay-lined pond at Roots4Life in Greenwich.
The London team returned recently to find it full of rainwater and with toads on site. They'll be back soon to plant it up for spring.
The rain has temporarily stopped our #GreenTalent team working at Boardwalks Nature Reserve.
Some of the ponds have joined the paths! But the dead hedge they created is holding strong!

Our #GreenTalent team have been busy supporting our Reserve Warden at Hampton Nature Reserve preparing a pond for survey season.
The reeds need clearing so the newts can be seen and have space to perform their courtship dance. With breeding season nearly here, they're working quickly!
#EyeGreenNR is a fantastic site for wildlife — have you spotted the otter there?
Maybe you even managed a better photo than our #GreenTalent Project Manager 😂

Our #GreenTalent team were excited to visit #EyeGreenNatureReserve, meet #volunteer Dean and plan future work.
In the spring, the team will install a pond liner creating a new pond at the reserve.

It may be too snowy outside to see most reptiles, but check out this massive lizard spotted by one of our Peterborough #GreenTalent Trainees.
He saw this on a recent visit to Fineshade Wood, managed by Forestry England.
What are your favourite reptile-themed public artworks?
Calling all community groups in Peterborough!
Do you have an outdoor space that could use a pond, or an existing one that needs some TLC?
As part of our #GreenTalent Project, we are looking for spaces for our trainees to build & maintain community ponds.

Our Peterborough #GreenTalent team have been using coppiced willow to create a dead hedge.
This not only helps the pond warm up to a more favourable temperature for #amphibians but also creates a new habitat for so many small animals and invertebrates.
Our Peterborough #GreenTalent team were back at Gladstone Connect in the Allama Iqbal Centre working on the pond area. They were lucky enough to have some little helpers – huge thanks!
Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund and all #NationalLottery players for making this possible!
Our #GreenTalent team would like to celebrate some of the habitats they have completed this year.
In total they have improved & created 28 #wildlife habitats including pond restorations, log piles, dead hedges, basking banks & egg-laying heaps at sites across Peterborough.
Our #GreenTalent team visited the Wildlife Trust’s Dogsthorpe Star Pit (https://tinyurl.com/6smeyme2 to admire the ponds & other habitats.
We are keen to know whether there have been any surveys for #amphibians & #reptiles here.
Star Pit could be an integral part of a wildlife corridor.
Huge thanks to #volunteer Mike!
Our #GreenTalent team couldn’t access the site they were working on due to temporary flooding, so they were lucky enough to have an impromptu mallet-making workshop.
The team now have their own mallets which are great for getting deadhedge stakes in the ground!
At the end of Nov, we gave a fond farewell to our #GreenTalent Placements.
We are incredibly grateful for their enthusiasm, hard work & passion. They will no doubt go on to make a fantastic impact in the conservation sector.
Thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund for making this possible!
Tools of the Trade!
When creating successful ponds and great habitats for #amphibians and #reptiles, the top three tools used by the Peterborough #GreenTalent and #LondonBlueChain projects have to be the Pull Saw, the Mattock and a good set of Loppers!
Our #GreenTalent team have started work at Thorpe Meadows ponds for Nene Park.
Removing the encroaching willow surrounding the pond and using the vegetation to make a dead hedge around the perimeter.
Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for supporting this work.
