A word of caution: it might feel like that grant/paper/review cannot possibly wait over the Christmas period, but you can't get time with friends and family back. You likely won't be like "really wish I'd submitted that" in 5 years time but you might regret not spending time with those you love.

Thanks ACEL Vic for the honour of presenting the Patron's Oration last night. It was great to share some thoughts on the need for more activist dispositions in order to propel the needed transformation of schooling.

I’ve been thinking about this with the starter packs - great for getting started but if your feed is chaotic / full / (eclectic? idk) it might not sustain long term engagement?

I am just doing my university's online compliance module on managing information. It's bit funny how it repeatedly states to lock one's office to keep information safe - when the majority of university staff are actually working in open place office spaces..

Great #AARE2024 session with a symposium of UNSW doctoral students working with Foucault. I especially loved Emma Le Marquand’s innovative work combining discourse and pop culture. So good!!

@drstephaniewescott.bsky.social shone light on how school responses to women teachers’ sexual harassment can reflect institutional gaslighting: patriarchal norms, 'unlevel knowing fields,' & dominant narratives - traumatising communities and upholding inhospitable cultures. #AARE2024

Craig Skerritt critiqued consulting students on 'good teaching': new insights versus the sinister side of student voice. Are students being reduced to quality control tools (e.g. Rate My Teachers?) How democratic is student voice in such a framework? 🤔 #AARE2024

Wonderful final #AARE2024 session today on teaching and time poverty - admin overload, tech demands, & stress leaving educators juggling 1,500+ daily decisions in fragmented, high-pressure environments. It's not just hours worked—it's how they're lived. Recruitment, retention, wellbeing at stake.

Dr Amanda McKay presented her chapter with Dr Stephanie Wescott on teacher guilt in testing regime. A very moving and beautifully theorised analysis of the clash between teacher values and actions in data-centric school cultures. Rip down the data walls! @chalkhands.bsky.social #AARE2024
