When asked about the personal and professional losses of being pushed out of government, Michael Boyce didn't hesitate: "Your identity is being a civil servant."

Glad to see an early example of doing the right thing. We shouldn't be deferring to non-experts who don't know what is actually safe. DOT has incredible bike planners and other planners and engineers who have dedicated themselves to understanding street safety and flow. Let's trust them.

“The President of the United States just overthrew a foreign ruler and explained to the American people that this is about taking control of the oil reserves of a foreign nation. He said that the U.S. will “run the country” until a proper transition can take place and went right into how U.S. oil companies will benefit from this takeover. He doesn’t understand the risks and costs involved with these poorly thought-out decisions that don’t make Americans any safer today than they were yesterday.

“Nicolás Maduro is a brutal, illegitimate dictator who deserves to face justice. I want the people of Venezuela to be free to choose their own future, but if we learned anything from the Iraq war, it’s that dropping bombs or toppling a leader doesn’t guarantee democracy, stability, or make Americans safer. More often, it leads to chaos or drags the U.S. into a war and lengthy occupation. I don’t trust that this administration has a plan, timeline, or price tag for what comes next.

“Over the past year, Trump’s foreign policy has been reckless, chaotic, self-serving, and unconstitutional. Congress should vote this week to reassert its authority on behalf of the American people before he oversteps again. I also want to recognize the professionalism and skill of the American service members involved in this operation. While I don’t agree with the administration’s justification for this, I’m thankful that no service members were killed or seriously injured.”

Mark Kelly puts out a statement saying "The President of the United States just overthrew a foreign ruler and explained to the American people that this is about taking control of the oil reserves of a foreign nation." This is probably the strongest statement alongside Gallego's I've read.

Excited that @publicgood.tech is on Bluesky! I’ve been on the board for a year now and have seen the incredible support we’ve been able to give to RIF’ed and furloughed federal staff and others during that year. Together in community during tough times.

Trump gets a pass on violent rhetoric, and he shouldn't. Calling the police is the correct response. Journalists should also take this seriously, demanding explanations and accountability from the White House, instead of pretending this is just a Thursday.

- UX, design and content experts to make program language easier to understand
- Deep work to understand law and program changes needed to modernize apartments and reduce vacancies 8/9

This can be done, but needs leadership to do so. And that leadership is @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social not Cuomo 9/9

- State leadership to ensure accountability for timely registration and consequences for those who don't follow the law.
- Money and technology expertise to modernize the outdated systems like the rent calculator that mean rent overcharge cases last for years 7/9

@zohrankmamdani.bsky.social understands how to use the State assembly, a necessary partner to make legal change in the and will fight for tenants with the means that the City has. There are many changes needed, some of which include: 6/9

I have spoken many times with the DHCR staff responsible for modernizing the process and they are in their fight - lack of money, fights for power and a strong landlord lobby mean tenants lose. 5/9

I cannot imagine being someone who does not have the time, knowledge or resources to navigate this process, like many typical residents who have families, multiple jobs or for whom English is a second language. 4/9

My career means I am essentially a professional bureaucracy hacker, and this has still been an incredibly challenging fight. Everyone I encounter who should be an expert is surprised that I was successful. 3/9

As a tenant of a rent-stabilized unit who discovered in 2017 that it had been illegally destabilized, it has been over a 7 year fight to get it brought back into stabilization. I won my case, but continue to fight to get back what I am owed. 2/9

Cuomo’s Attack on Mamdani’s Apartment Struck a New York Nerve

Cuomo had YEARS as governor to address the real issues with rent stabilization - things like illegally destabilized units, lack of oversight, outdated technology managing the program, lack of landlord accountability, vacant units etc., and did just about nothing. 1/9

18F, the federal government’s technology shop, was demolished by Musk’s team shortly after midnight. It was a cost-recoverable org, charging agencies for their expertise, using a consulting model. Its cost to government was negligible, its benefits huge. My team there once saved DoD $500 billion.
