Now is a great time to get involved in any cause that inspires you. Non-profits need as much support as they can get, now more than ever! Plus, experiencing the internal workings of an organization brings so much understanding and respect for every goal reached and program launched.

2025 was a wild year to be president of a professional society focused on science and environmental management, but I'm so lucky to work with these folks. I am in awe of the commitment and enthusiasm of everyone in the lake community who volunteers their time and expertise for @nalms.bsky.social.

In 2019, a house finch with a malformed beak became a regular in our garden. Didn't see it again after that spring. Now in 2026, it seems to be back?! #birds #birding

I guess it's time to end my alumna donations and put my regalia hood in storage. Why remain associated with a university that wants nothing to do with the expertise it trained me in? Good luck with the tornadoes and droughts, Nebraska - your flagship university won't be able to help you anymore.

I would interpret it as willingness to participate in trainings. Many universities provide professional development (PD) to make faculty better teachers, stronger researchers, etc. by internal programs or external courses like ACUE. Also, desire to seek out discipline-specific PD in early career.

I earned my PhD in this program. This is an excellent department with an outsized level of productivity. They train professionals for careers as experts in severe weather, drought, climatology, hydrogeology, petroleum, and paleontology. This would be a big loss for UNL. I hope they reconsider.
