Just a reminder: if you're pursuing STEM to stay in academia, the 3 most important skills are: resilience, critical thinking, and effective communication (both written and oral). If you're not ready for that, academic STEM might not be for you.

Metabolic Crossroads: AMDHD2 Couples the Hexosamine Biosynthetic Pathway to Acetyl-CoA Homeostasis in Pluripotent Stem Cells Pluripotent stem cells (SCs) rely on metabolic rewiring to regulate self-renewal and differentiation. The hexosamine biosynthetic pathway (HBP) integrates multiple metabolic inputs to produce uridine ...

Polvorones la Estepeña. Traditional Spanish christmas cookies.

I found this in Lidl… there were only two boxes left, so I took both. You guys can't imagine how much I missed this! I know it's August (and these are Christmas cookies), but I’ll probably finish both boxes before Monday

The chemotherapy-induced senescence-associated secretome promotes cell detachment and metastatic dissemination through metabolic reprogramming Cellular senescence, characterized by a stable cell cycle arrest, is a well-documented consequence of several widely used chemotherapeutics that has context-dependent roles in cancer. Although senesce...

The summer has been busy! Along with the move and a PhD defense, we have updated two preprints:

In the second, we discovered that cisplatin drives ovarian cancer metastasis through a metabolic cross-talk between senescent cancer cells with non-senescent cancer cells. We identified fructose as the upstream driver of this phenotype. First author Dr. Cole just defended!

In the first, @raquelbuj.bsky.social discovered that tumors can respond to anti-PD1 without T cells! Mechanistically, this is through a zinc-dependent increase in macrophage phagocytosis, and this is driven through cancer cell CDKN2A-mediated zinc compartmentalization.

Myeloid-targeting immunotherapies overcome inhibitory barriers in immune-evasive neuroblastoma This study describes a Mycn-nGEMM for neuroblastoma. Murine and human neuroblastomas showed profound immunosuppression mediated by PD-L1–expressing, TAMs.

Myeloid-targeting immunotherapies, particularly anti-PD-L1, significantly enhance survival in mice with immune-evasive neuroblastoma by remodeling the tumor environment.

This book is a plagiarism of a Spanish TV series that premiered in 2015 on Spain's public television network, with the exact same name. The author claims she was inspired by the series, but if you watch the show and read the book, it's a very exact kind of inspiration.

Carlos Alcaraz had beautiful words for Jannik Sinner after beating him in the longest Roland Garros final in history

“I’m just really happy to be able to make history with you in this tournament, in other tournaments. You’re a huge inspiration for young kids and for everyone. And for myself.” 🥹
