“Habenaria rhodocheila is the first Asian species in this genus known to be pollinated by swallowtail butterflies (Papilionidae: Papilio) as reported from Thailand by Williams and Watthana (2011).”
This species was described by the British diplomat Henry Fletcher Hance (1827–1886). The specific name is derived from the Greek ῥόδον (rose) + χεῖλος (lip)
