Little Bittern sat in reeds.
Been waiting a few years for this but finally got a decent sighting of Little Bittern on a trip to ria Formosa in Portugal.

I didn't used to expect ticks until May but had huge numbers on me in Cambs woodland this weekend. It's been -2C at night and only 13C by day. This hazard for early spring fieldwork is pretty new, not something I worried about in March. Affects fieldwork approach and precautions needed. #BeTickAware
John. you will just have to pedal faster.

I checked their website and unfortunately there's no mention of it. You'll just have to develop your own Youtube channel, John.π
Another 'missing' Hen Harrier, this time in the Moorfoot Hills, south of Edinburgh - a well known hotbed of illegal raptor persecution over several decades.

Low juv survival in Twites may drive decline in one English remnant breeding population, but wider decline more likely driven by factors affecting all age groups.

Probably looking for small children.π―
To be good, not too π
Thanks John, I may well take you up on the offer, but not before next year's spring migration. Best bird (for me) today was a Monty's. BOC pic, too distant too be good but nails the jizz.
John, Trafico had birds but 'No muchos y todos muy altos'. See you next time.π
If you are craving some more live Falcon nest action now the Sheffield Peregrines have fledged then check out this Hobby Cam from Dorset. Thought to be the only live Subbuteo nest cam in Europe this year #ukbirding

If only Bluesky was full of left-leaning liberals talking about this threat every day, instead of relentlessly attacking the only party in a realistic position to stop them at the next election.
Thanks Mark.
Where from?
Check out the brood patch on this female Wheatear in Derbyshire today. It must have been a big clutch.

All just record shots for my records, but sending them in case you don't get better.
Got some Dunlin somewhere, but can't find them as yet.
Which species are you missing, Jamie?
Western Yellow Wagtail (Motacilla flava flavissima), Elton Common, Derbyshire, UK, 28/05/2025 ebird.org/checklist/S2... Pleased to see this declining species is hanging on as a breeding bird in the White Peak #ukbirding #birding #birds @derbyshirebirds
I was hoping you'd say Canon - just trading in a 1Dx and a 5D3 and hoping to keep and use the EFs, but only r7 to begin with, and see how it goes.
Nice pics Mark, can I ask what with, camera/lens etc?
I'm surprised Red Kite still hasn't nested nearby yet because the village has plenty of cats, dogs, and small children.π
Red Kite over Middleton by Youlgrave yesterday.

That wall's been down for more than a year now. You ought to have built it up while you were there. π
It's hard work Andy. π
My question was based on a conversation with a Migres guy last Sept. I thought he said that the Ruppell's at Zarga had bred, but perhaps I misunderstood. After searching, the only definite breeding record that I can find is the hybrid offspring at El Chorro. Are there more?
Spanish birds, but a bit surprising all the same.
That's more like it π
Thanks, Chris. Only 90mm? I was expecting 600+. Great pics.
