Wonderful to see a photo of Tulip bakerii in their native setting. These ones are their cultivated offspring in my garden.

A Micromoth on a Holly leaf. It is a Tortrix species and has a white-ish diamond on its dorsum.
Younger daughter photographed this micro at Hill Hook this afternoon, possibly Epinotia immundana? Opinions please #teammoth
A new bee species for me yesterday in Lichfield’s Beacon Park: a female Bronze Furrow Bee (Halictus tumulorum). #solitarybees
I need to go to Sutton Park on a sunny day (not a cold breezy one like Sunday)
Pebble Prominent is always a nice moth to see.
Great cover photo
I think your first Clouded Drab is trying to pass as a Silver Y!
There is no signage in the park that suggests that & to change people’s attitudes/behaviour would take a concerted, well-thought out campaign and require a visible presence by park rangers. BCC has neither the funds or staff for this.
I guess things are later there with you, but I’m sure they will be very welcome when they do emerge.
First female Holly Blue of the year in the garden today. I wonder if she managed to hook up with the male who was also present? #butterflies @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social
😂
Bilberry
Lesser Reed Mace aka Bullrushes
Greater Tussock Sedge
Pendulous Sedge
For #wildflowerhour this week, Bilberry in Sutton Park, plus Lesser Reedmace, Greater Tussock Sedge and Pendulous Sedge at Hill Hook LNR. @wildflowerhour.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social
Surprise moth on found on the window this afternoon, possibly a lurker from last night. Least Black Arches, NFY & very welcome. #teammoth
That really is a beauty. Congratulations!
It’s scandalous that dogs are allowed off-lead indiscriminately in what is a National Nature Reserve. Unfortunately most local residents think it’s just another ‘park’.
As I said to Steve, I’ve taken the approach of trapping regardless of the cold (rain is a different matter as it’s a hassle drying everything out). If I keep my expectations low, I won’t be disappointed 😆
I meant to post this picture of the thermometer at 6.15am…
I’ve decided to take the approach of sticking the trap out just to see if anything at all turns up. I’m keeping my expectations very low, though. As you say, forecast is not encouraging.
An Early Grey moth sitting on a bit of broken pot that I put in my bucket trap to weigh it down.
A big round of applause for this plucky Early Grey which ventured out in near-freezing temperatures last night and single-handedly chased the Irishman from my garden 👏👏👏 #teammoth
That’s a good reason for a repeat visit if I ever heard one.
Well done with Lunar Thorn, a moth I’d have no chance of seeing at home.
The male Tawny Mining Bee is one of the easier Andrena males to recognise due to their very distinctive white ‘moustaches’ This one from my Sutton Coldfield garden about a week ago #solitarybees @ecorecord.bsky.social
I didn’t know about their liking for Common Fleabane, will have to remember that.
I’m wondering if there are any Norway Spruces near me…
Indeed they won’t. Were there any feeding signs on the cone?
A very attractive moth. Only the third Staffs record by the looks of it! Well done 👏
Very nice micro, Les.
True, that’s some consolation!
They really do. No late spring species round here at all.
Tipula vittata, a large cranefly with attractive black and white-patterned wings and a pale grey abdomen with dark edges. Its usual habitat is wet woodland & muddy stream edges.
The best thing in the moth trap this morning was this cranefly, Tipula vittata, a large spring-flying species. The less said about the 3 moths there (2HC & a LBAM) the better… #teammoth #flies #diptera
